AA, and waiting on UA.

I chat with AA and UA pilots regularly and most of them are quite jealous of what we can do with our schedules. There is no transparency at either of those airlines in regards to reserve minimums or dropping trips. Company can do whatever they want.

Makes sense. I really wouldn’t put AA in the same class with the other Big 2 until they prove otherwise. Work rules, widebody opportunities etc…. The big thing they have going for them are their retirements coming up.

Quote: One of the UAL guys said recently 100-150 planes a year for the next 5 years, and 2,600 pilots a year. They will eventually get a new contract, 1-2 years is nothing over a career. With so little invested at NK I'm not sure it's a hard decision, but it's also a very personal one.

Good luck guys.
LOL those 100-150 planes per year turn into replacements (not growth) very easily if a multitude of different things happen that slow or stop hiring. They are already overstaffed for the flying they have right now.

I have the QOL right now that allows me to do whatever I want with my schedule and still make good money. UA/AA have never had our scheduling abilities. I don't expect that to change with a new contract.

If united is overstaffed now, wouldn’t that bode well for that fleet growth? Means they can take them easier.

More fat to cut when the time comes....

It's a gamble in my eyes. Do you think this hiring/growth environment is going to last another 2-3 years? I do not.

Man I hope those green/grid rules survive the JCBA, but that's yet ANOTHER gamble.

From this and previous posts, seems you know it all. I made similar calculation (mistake) a decade ago. Good luck.

Great attitudes to go into negotiations with. “Let’s give stuff away!” Makes sense….

Quote: yeah fair enough, actually i dont need to be in ord for forever but certainly lets say the next 5 years. apparently NK is moving over to the G gates so combined with JB it should make 6.5 gates.
Seniority atm is pretty good in chicago as an FO. I mean im a few years in and people have left in front of me.

unfortunately ive already got a class date with UA which kinda sucks as by now what was assumed was that a new contract was going to be out there. Now on the UA boards they are saying a new contract is going to be 1-2 years away.

yeah the choice is not easy.
No way the new UAL contract is 2 years away… Kirby is waiting on Isom and AA to go first because in his mind Isom ****ed him over by surpassing UALs deal while it was being voted on (ignoring the fact that he conspired with TI to get him the ALPA presidency in return for a management friendly contract that was concessionary in nature that riled up the pilot group to vote no).

UAL NPS has already started taking a hit due to dragging out negotiations with pilots and lost goodwill affecting customer interactions and 100 planes are showing up this year at United. Unless management plans on parking an equivalent number of old airframes for next summer, there’s no way they can afford to drag out negotiations for 2 years. It doesn’t make any sense for Kirby to burn his own house down by waiting longer than he has too… if he does, Robert Isom is going to be popping his popcorn over the flames.

Your DTZ goes away in the merger. This is a long game industry. You need to decide your comfort level as to the % chance the merger goes through and whether you'd rather be with JB for decades or AA/UA. Well, UA now.
