Quote: He’s describing United all pilots are on long call then assigned SC or FSB after 2 conversions all other INVOLUNTARY SC assignments (scheduling assigned not picked up by the pilot) are 1hr above guarantee. Once you get a total of 6 SC all involuntary and voluntary SCs are paid at 1hr guarantee.

I was Involuntarily assigned 10 SCs in January so my pay was 83hrs. Flew 0.0 hours that month.

By the way nearly 100% of United pilots on reserve think our reserve rules are god awful and are fighting for a complete overhaul.
Care to explain why they think it’s bad. Just for comparison.

Honestly it’s to much to type but I’ll give he big reasons. For more in depth do a search in the United forum there are atleast 3 long threads with a lot of issues presented.

1. No limits on the amount of SC/FSB conversions
2. 24hr phone availability with poorly worded assignment windows.
3. No transparency on the historical need for SC/FSB pilots per day. The amount of pilots converted appears to be completely at the whim of a crew scheduling manager. Clear blue beautiful day with good weather across the country and 15 pilots are on SC And 5 are FSB? All assignments will get assigned and then a shift will change and you will get a call at 2am for a SC/FSB assignment.....Why?
4. Rolling days off for intl crews. Will assign a SC to a 6day reservist and assign a 6 day trip to a 3 day reservist. They want the 6 day pilot on reserve because they can do more with him.
5. We are considered system reserves. So if you are in an overstuffed vase you would think you would be sitting at home with your family. Nope they build a ton of SCs so they can give you a 2.5 hour callout to DH somewhere in the country.
6. First in first out has its perks but it creates a situation where your seniority means exactly nothing when you are on reserve. Your life is dictated by where you sit in a silo with no assignment bypass options.
7. Only 12 days off.

I know I’m forgetting stuff........

A 3 day reserve can be assigned a 6 day trip?! Any additional compensation for that?

Only international or global reserves can be rolled for an international trip. As a 787 pilot I cannot be rolled for a SFO-IAD but can for a SFO-FRA....... And no extra compensation. It’s a complete load of garbage. You get the days off back on your next block of reserve days.

Domestic reserves cannot be rolled into their days off.

Oh, then you are in for a treat.

• Pilots will bid in PBS for either Long Call Reserve (LCR) or Short Call Reserve (SCR)
for the month, seniority always applies
• Improved days off for Reserve Pilots
• Short Call Reserves to receive 13 days off in 30-day bid period, 14 days off in
31-day bid period
• Long Call Reserves to receive 12 days off in 30-day bid period, 13 days off in
31-day bid period. Exception:
• Long Call Reserves will receive 14 days off in May, Sept, and October and,
• 13 days off in February for non-leap years, 14 in February for leap years
• Converted “Company discretion” PRLs into true days off throughout the year
• Company must award a minimum of 25% of Reserves Long Call and 30% Short Call
• All lines in excess of Short Call requirement will be Long Call reserve
• Example: If Company needs 60% of reserves to be Short Call, the
remaining 40% will be Long Call
• PBS will award the reserve schedules in the same manner as today, and will contain
rules to retain 6 days on reserve maximum, 2 days off minimum unless waived by the
Pilot. If waived:
• Pilots will now be able to bid for blocks of reserve between 3 and 18 days long
• Pilots will now be able to bid for blocks of less than 2 days off between reserve
blocks
• If longer than 6 days in a row of reserve or less than 2 days off between reserve
blocks, the Company will manage the FAR legalities for 30 hours free from duty
• New High-Time Reserve provisions eliminates sitting reserve for free once you have
met your reserve obligation
• Once a Reserve Pilot reaches 75:00 of credit, the Company must choose to
either remove all the remaining RSV days or pay 4:12 above guarantee for each
RSV day remaining
• A Pilot whose RSV days are removed may pick up additional flying for added
credit
• A Short Call Reserve will not be assigned a RAP or a Pairing prior to 1000 on their
first day of a reserve block.
• Waivable by Pilot via bidding the early AM silo
• A Long Call Reserve will not be assigned a Pairing or Short Call conversions prior to
1400 on their first day of a reserve block.
• Long Call Reserve callout of 14 hours
• New black-out period protection during possible window of no commutability
• If unable to make report in black-out window, Pairing will be assigned to
SCR and the applicable LCR Pilot will be assigned SCR during the days
the assigned Pairing was scheduled to operate
• LCR to SCR conversion rules do not apply
• New Long Call reserve auto-release
• Auto-released at 0800 on last day of reserve if not assigned a Pairing
• Improved Short Call reserve auto-release
• Auto-released (if no assignment) at RAP start time +6 hours, no earlier than
1100 and no later than 1700
• Removed current provision for Company to call and notify a Reserve

Reserve Assignment Process (DRO) will begin at 0300 and it will be published no
later than 0800
• Pilots will know their assignments far earlier than today
• DRO publishing can only be delayed due to the limited circumstance of a
software failure.
• Short Call Reserves can bid for RAP in 4 silos (A, B, C, and D) instead of today’s AM
or PM-only options
• Early morning, late morning, afternoon, evening silos available
• Pilots awarded Long Call Reserve lines shall have all RSV days as Long Call except:
• Company is only permitted to convert a maximum of 5 days per bid period from
Long Call to Short Call
• Each converted day pays $100 above guarantee
• Established rules governing the conversion process when selecting which
Reserve Pilot to convert, which factors in days of available reserve and number
of previous conversions for the Bid Period
• Unless in a Level 2/3 IROP, Company may only covert via the DRO process
• Long Call Reserves will be the primary means for assignment of open Pairings
in the Reserve Assignment Process (DRO) and unassigned Pairings that are
more than 14:30 prior to report time
• Long Call Reserve Pilots assigned a next-day Pairing in the DRO or by Crew
Services is released from reserve obligations until report time of the Pairing so
long as the company is not in a level 2 or 3 IROP at the time of assignment.
• Example: DRO published 0800 on Monday assigns a Pairing with a report
of 2000 on Tuesday. Pilot is off duty with no Company obligations until
2000 report on Tuesday.
• Ability for Reserves to preference Pairings
• Now awarded in seniority order
• For Long Call Reserve, eliminated requirement for Pairing length to match days
remaining

release time after 1659 to a Reserve the day prior to vacation
• Reserve Pilots who are delayed past 0300 into a day off may elect either an additional
4:12 of pay above guarantee OR restoration of a day off
• Restored day off is of Pilots choosing in current or subsequent bid period (if
published)
• Retained prohibition on airport reserve

Quote: From what I understand most places have LCR as the "default". Then you can be transitioned to SCR a certain number of days with a pay override when they do it. This is what makes reserve commute able elsewhere. No more than 6 days in your crash pad and plenty of heads up when you have transitioned. Because there is an override for SCL most people who live in base will volunteer, thus giving relief to the commuters. What we got is Pea +1.

Garbage.
The rsv section and scheduling are not garbage Pog.
