One problem here is everyone believing how someone acts on an Internet forum is exactly how they act in real life. Everytime I've done a forum gathering of some sort, I find the man behind the keyboard is totally different in person. Usually quite pleasantly so!
That said, as much as I want to move to the left seat after 7 plus years of slinging gear, the thought of reserve again at SKW makes my stomach churn. Regional FO for life!!

I never thought I'd defend ClickClickBoom but I have to in this case. The people I know who are getting the easy major interviews are the check airmen, girls and minorities. Almost every regular captain I've flown with has had a lot of trouble getting interviews even with attending career fairs and having plenty of internal recs.
Of course some have gotten class dates but the selection process for regular male captains seems pretty random. It's really only the check airmen and minorities, and military who are getting called quickly.

I'm not saying women or minorities should expect special treatment, but I am saying that there is a certain comfort level that comes with being a white male in this industry. Just more of an awareness of what others have to deal with and maybe some perspective of walking in someone else's shoes.

Oh boy. I am so tired of this pathetic whine... If there were no women and minorities, it would still be difficult for all you White Male pilots to beat each other in the door. The 5% of us in the industry aren't stealing all your mainline jobs. Plenty of not-female, not-black, not-checkairmen, not-captains are getting hired, but they usually know someone. Make sure you complain about them, too.
The fact is that the real push to hire won't happen until the massive retirements kick in, 3-4 years from now. Let's stop complaining about the "lifers", Senior captains aren't ruining your career and taking all the pay that should go to you. You should have known what your pay was going to be before you came to work at the company, and if your expectation was otherwise or that you'd upgrade quickly and not have to worry about FO pay for long, then shame on you for not doing your homework. CCB has a legit gripe, and it's why I won't go on the Sapa forums, either, it gives me heartburn. Although I do think there's merit in having to post your own junk under your own name, makes it easier to know who's gonna be, uh, interesting to fly with ahead of time.

There is one captain I know that would trade the left seat for the right seat again. He lasted the minimum time required to sit right seat, and he's back on reserve again in the left seat.
Skywest management will get your pay. It's just a matter of time. You can't stop PSA, Piedmont, and Mesa because we aren't in control. Mainline management has us by the balls. Eventually we will all be Mesa.

I have a wife who makes far more money than me so I'm definitely not one to complain about pay. I do this job because so far I enjoy it. If I never get hired by a major I'd still live a comfortable life at the regionals so I'm really just along for the rollercoaster ride. I want to see where it takes me.

One of the best guys I've ever flown with just got on with United. Never went to a job fair or interview prep and he said it was quite pleasent. It's def starting to get to the point where regular joes are getting hired.

I know of two Brasilia captains that just left for United. I believe they did network extensively though.

Well,
While I would like to say it was good to blow off some steam, I just got my PBS for Nov. 99.22hrs, credit 92.1 block. 5-4 day trips, every trip has 1-3 hour sits, and my line goes into Dec. for a whopping 11 days off. SGU has won, it's not that I can't do this job any longerI don't really want to. F-the majors, after Nov, if I am still in this industry it will be a miracle. If this job continues to deteriorate at the rate it has during my participation, it will be a short few years until it is unbearable for everybody, top to bottom. The thought of commuting to Newark to sit reserve for UAL is equally repugnant.
It has become evident to me that while I like to fly, I don't really like this industry, nor the job.....

How many male Captain's or FO's have had to deal with having the other pilot whipping out his junk during a flight? How many have to deal with watching their drinks like a hawk when out on the overnights so they are not drugged and (allegedly) gang raped by her crew like one of our FA's reported?
WOW! This is NOT a threat women have to deal with when they show up for work. Plus, the drink issue, all woman deal with that one and so do men at times.
I have a dozen or so female pilot friends who I speak with often, you’re stretching......
