Could not disagree more. I have had two kids as well as multiple different surgeries for my wife and myself on the CDHP and it was great. In the end I paid less over all out of pocket then when I had my first kid under the old Skywest insurance.

I have kids that go to the doctor as well as one on a very expensive prescription and I love the CDHP. The great part about the CDHP is you don't pay any more than you pay for the PPO but instead of forking all your money over to the insurance company you have control over the bulk of it in your HSA. I hope to never have a traditional health care plan ever again.

All good and fine as long as you are within your cash amount, but let us know how it is when the unexpected happens, like a pesky car accident where everyone needs care. Had a F/O who's son needed emergency surgery/treatment to the tune of 100K+, he was worried that the company was gonna force him to the CDHP program, the continuing treatment for his son would have required him to quit and seek a job with medical benefits. That's what insurance is for, when I am well, I pay into the pool, and when you and your kids are sick they can use "my" money to get better. CDHP is the ultimate in the "me" generation, its all good until you go past you cash, then when your kids are sick/ill/hurt you will be first in line at the county emergency room demanding 'free" treatment.
The number 1 reason for personal bankruptcies is medical costs. Enjoy your CDHP, as long as everyone is relatively healthy it's all good, and when you need public help with your and your kids health I will continue to pay the taxes so you and yours can live.

With the EMB120 being parked next year. I wonder how that is going to effect new hires or hiring in general.

No changes, except the no quick upgrade into the Mexican King Air will force everybody into the same seniority que. With 70 per month planned, upgrades will be happening sooner or later.

They've already thinned out the bro population over the last 6 months or so, between the routes that will go to the fifty and people going to the 175 I doubt you'll see any change at all.

I'm guessing the recent hires into the 175 might be most effected, especially since some were awarded SFO. They'll almost certainly be headed back to ORD.

FAT and PSP are getting the 700, so brosephs there might have an opportunity to stay on the RJ without changing domiciles.

Are new hires flying much? Or is there a lot of sitting on reserve? What's the better jet to try and get if I'm looking to be based in California? Thanks!

Nice diatribe but there is an annual out-of-pocket max of $6,400 on the CDHP. Guess what the out-of-pocket max is on the PPO...$6,000. Not much of a difference. With those hundreds of thousands of medical bills your FO will only pay $6,400. Granted that is for each calendar year, if continuing treatment needed.

The reason medical bills are the number one cause of bankruptcy is because people have medical problems and don't have any insurance not because of CDHPs.

What F/O could afford 6400.00 in Dec and 6400.00 in Jan? For a newhire F/O that's almost 1/2 of their yearly gross. And since the CDHP is ultimately funded by Skywest they will have a say in coverage......its not a diatribe, its reality. The CDHP is for healthy people, ask one of our Captains who was injured in a snowboarding accident what its like to be medicaled out for more than 6 months. Unfortunately you are healthy until you aren't.

I think the only time a new-hire will actually sit reserve is in a hotel on a nice 5 day TDY. Screw support holds your deed, you will be doing something. Even if it is three headheads and a limo ride to fly one 45 minute leg.

As far as CA? CRJ unless something changes.

Do a little research and get back to me. You are wrong, CDHP is a set up for BK. Injury/health issue, no work, no money, no coverage. If your paycheck stops how are you gonna pay 6400 in Dec and in Jan and pay for Cobra?
