I’ve seen guys mention that their app status went from “Submission Received” to “Under Review”. For those that have seen that, how long has it usually taken to hear anything from recruiting after it went to Under Review? Mine has been in that status for over a week, just wondering if that’s a good or a bad sign…

Two of us performed to standards, one didn’t. He was busted. Retrain, recheck, off you go.

A Commander Directed Downgrade is something else entirely. That is the Commander losing faith in your ability to command the aircraft/crew, or to accomplish the mission. That is not a simple retraining issue. I believe a CDD is a more serious issue, speaking to leadership and/or maturity.

Interview wise, is it overcome-able, probably so. But I wouldn’t think it would be as easy as explaining away a check ride Q3.
Full disclosure: I was hired, having received a Q3 and having issued a Q3.
Interesting take and not how I would quantity it myself. In the CAF, a CDD was basically if you did something Q3-able but not on an actual check ride. For me my CDD was to a Q3 on that daily sortie. I was required to “retrain” and re-qualified on the next sortie, which for my situation was simply not having a runway incursion on my next flight with my #2 as a SEFE and I was back to Q1 status.

How you described a CDD would to me be more of an FEB type issue. Like questioning whether you should be flying an aircraft at all because of gross safety violations/discipline/airmanship. Maybe that process also starts with a CDD Q3, but I don’t know. I’d like to think my scenario would be viewed differently.

In any case, it was years ago for me and I’ve been through lots of upgrades/growth since then and am actually looking forward to talking about what I learned from it in an interview! I’m just hoping checking that box doesn’t put the app in the trash forever.

Reading the tea leaves of the status of you app is an art form. You may here from one person is that is what happened right before he got called and another one will be that is what happened before it just got stalled for ever. There really does not seem to be a set pattern from my experience.

So funny, and if you weren't kidding, even funnier.

Default Career Connections

Has anyone else gotten the email about the Tuesday virtual career connections thing? Any idea if this is a step in the right direction or what this is about?

I did though I didn't not attend. Hopefully I did not hurt my chances.

Outsider’s question…how does vacation work at WN in terms of accrual schedule (weeks/yr for longevity) and credit for dropping trips (dropped trip value/hours per day/etc). Couldn’t find the info in a couple searches, but feel free to point me in the right direction if it’s answered elsewhere. Thanks!

This is off the top of my head, but two weeks for your first 5 years then on year 6 you get a third. 5 weeks is max accrual. Your first year is prorated. Line bidding drops the trips that touch your vacation week with pay (lots of little caveats and gotchas to this, but that's the main idea). We can block bid weeks, which can turn two weeks into 4-5 off pretty easily. Vacation is worth 26.25 before any trips are dropped.

There's lots more ins and outs and whathaveyous, but those are the basics.

Any latest and greatest on when the next window will be? Or was the last one for all of 22?

I don't have an answer for you, but with the hiring numbers the Bobs are throwing around, I would count on another window or two next year.
