They will actually make money from these pads. They buy wholesale but charge us retail 3 years later.

This sure isn't 'industry standard' without a sim card for data. Good luck finding a WIFI signal at the airport. Come in 2 hrs early to download your Jepp revision at 1 mgps speed.

This LOA single handedly provides the biggest financial gift to the company since Contract 2010. My vote is a big fat NO.

As far as Im concerned: work is work, money is money. They want to threaten pulling us into base to read out 10 inch pads? Bring it on!
I'm not sure I understand. Both the LOA and the EFB manual stress the pilot is not responsible except in case of willful misconduct. I'm not sure you've ever been issued company materiel before, but this is standard. A police report? Yes, if it's stolen, that's standard.

Where did you hear we were going to have to purchase them 3 years later at retail cost?

Sim data card? In an iPad?

The Jepp updates take moments, it's really not hard to do, it can be done at home before you come in. Wifi will be great at the terminal, but in the length of time it took me to type this, I'd have already finished my Jepp update at home. I not sure I understand the issue with this.

Now, like Sailor said, if a No vote will get more pay per hour for training, I'm all about voting No then.

If a No vote is because I think the company is going to try and stiff me out of $400 if I accidentally drop an iPad, or I'm worried about Jepp updates, or I want deadhead pay restored because of training, if that's the only reason to vote No, then I don't see the logic in this.

I'm also not sure how voting Yes for this LOA is gonna hold up my upgrade or cause less pilots to be hired.

No matter what they do if we vote no they will still have to put that training on the existing schedule of every pilot with 12-13 days off. If we vote yes, they get all those days for free requiring less pilots.

Yep!

So, your previous Union airline made you purchase items later that were first issued to you?

That's crap! That would definitley be a good reason to leave that airline to come here.

I missed that mandatory purchase plan in the LOA, on that basis it's a No for me too!

The point is that it is our responsibility to show the breakage was not 'willful misconduct' since they have the power of payroll deduction. You know who you are dealing with right?

If its stolen in the middle of a trip are you going to wait 5 hrs for Boston PD to report a 'stolen iPad'? Really dude? Who takes the delay?

If they do charge you do you really think they apply depreciation to the value? yea right!

And yes...most iPads come with a sim card for data. Yes, it costs more for that version but the corporate data plans are dirt cheap. The other airlines use them.

Try doing an update on your screaming home WIFI when you are in the middle of a 6 day commute/trip and a fed is going along for the ride. Get real.

SAVE IPO Price - $12
SAVE today - $78.39

Do you trust their judgement for the next contract, that is the question? Yes?, vote yes! No?, vote NO!

How are those stock options working out for you?
I Disagree, I'm voting no for the reasons I stated, unless anything changes to make me vote otherwise. And I do trust our Union. Probably no the right time to start antagonizing now ShopVac.

My point is that no management gives anything away for free and unless something is spelled out explicitly in contractual language the company will always interpret in their favor while you grieve it and wait months for an arbitration date. I'm not saying they will make you buy a broken iPad at retail price when they paid wholesale but if they can they probably will and there is nothing in the language to prevent it.

That said the iPad language is satisfactory to me and I would vote in favor if it were alone. The training is my huge issue and the fact that the group is not understanding the staffing implications is mind blowing. Trip protection and dhd pay is going to be small potatoes when they don't upgrade. Which will cost them more?

I personally don't think option 1 is likely whatsoever. 2- it's possible, but from managements perspective, they have already offered us a deal better than any other airline gets. I'm not sure if they would budge. Is it worth a shot? Perhaps. Option 3 is possible I suppose. If I were in management that's what I would do. It will be cheaper than flying everyone down to FLL and paying for hotels and dropped trips. I don't think this is a "Scare Tactic". I think it is a valid answer to a good question.
Management will take the lowest cost route to their goal.

Do you think they offered this LOA because they love you?

This LOA is offered because it is a win for them. Period, end of story! *

Where's the win for us?

IT IS NOT THE GROUPS PROBLEM THAT THE MEC SENT OUT A POORLY CONSIDERED LOA!

*everyone here is happy that Spirit is profitable, no one is jealous. We just dont want their gain to come at our expense.

Was this LOA written by the genius that reduced our first year pay by 10% with the power of his 357 magnum? ( the strike vote) Mattyas' words, not mine.
