How about a billboard in FLL, ORD, etc that shows what percent our salary is compared to our peers at United, Delta, American, Southwest, Alaska, Jetblue, etc. Not illegal, just facts.

I think anything would be good but I really don't think our passengers care. I am not sure how Southwest got to picket, it seemed to get a lot of FREE media coverage. I would be willing to spend some time doing that, it shows unity.
I really think passengers don't care and we end up looking like cray babies. Until
Planes stop moving nothing will happen.

I agree. But you have to start somewhere to put pressure on. We are a long way off from release, strike vote, etc. Delta is looking for a, what, 30% increase doing informational picketing. We are trying to get a "path to parity" to what they have now...ish. Southwest is doing informational picketing. We held signs in an abandoned hallway that only the "money men" could see. It is a start, but I think more should be done, and when the public, who already thinks they are flying a po-dunk airline when they see our ticket prices sees that the people most responsible for their lives are doing so at 50% of what their peers make at a "real airline" it doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence. It will put pressure on and make people think twice that another strike may be in the works.

These same "people" you refer to will put pressure on management when they find out we're below (by 50%) our peers? These same "people" that still ask where H8 is when they are standing in front of H6 and still can't believe we charge for luggage and water? They barely can think for themselves within a 10 mile radius of an airport let alone thinking twice about an idea of a strike. That is blind faith and I highly doubt the general public actually cares or even wants to know. They only care about how cheap their ticket is, and if they can slide by the gate agent without paying for their carry-on. Barring a complete necessity for management to concede and get the remaining sections TA'd, the last minute of the last hour of the last day in a 30 day cooling off period will we see any movement on a CBA.
Quote: It's also a big assumption that your sample statement would be considered legal. We are dealing with a company that wants to drag this out as long as possible, and a mediator that is only there to make sure both sides are playing by the rules - however slanted in the company's favor those rules are. Right now, our NC can show several times that we have gone above and beyond to work with the company, and can show blatant continuing violations of the CBA and non-compliance with arbitrators' rulings. Why give the company anything, like a big gray-area statement, to allow the company to deflect from our points?

Well, last time the company completely disrespected the mediator and that helped get us released.

It probably won't work, and it may hurt. Sometimes doing nothing is the best course of action. Not a pilot like attitude? We're not flying a plane. Do you use a pilot-like attitude when you negotiate on a new car or a house?

Joe six-pack averages 55K per year. The company says "These guys make $185 per hour (I know, top of the scale isn't a fair representation of wages but that's what they will say) and that's not enough for them, they are jacking up your ticket price." Beside, these guys sleep half the time anyway. I know I always feel bad for MLB players when they go on strike.
#1 Yes. It may not be the best statement. That's what we pay attorney for. I suggest a strong, legal, statement asking pilots to comply with the CBA and nothing extra. It will pull the thin veil off the guys who use the line "the union doesn't back it so I'm going to get mine"
If the leadership asks us to unify by not doing anything above the requirements of our job, how can you (or arbitrator ) say that's not okay? And before you answer for managements point, why not just ask the MEC to look into it?

2) Pilot like attitude is a way of life. Yes. I assume I will be successful. Doesn't always happen but it's a life orientation. We should assume we can pressure the company effectively instead of assuming failure and doing nothing.

3) Joe six pack does vote with his dollars. It's why Madison Ave exist. Advertising influences behavior. It's why we pay for a PR personnel. The old guy may not have cared if our rep was junk but the new guy definitely does. It would be very effective.

I say we push for informational picketing. I believe it's a strong message of unity to management that we still are fired up about a new contract and we are willing to do what ever it takes to get it done!
