It probably won't work, and it may hurt. Sometimes doing nothing is the best course of action. Not a pilot like attitude? We're not flying a plane. Do you use a pilot-like attitude when you negotiate on a new car or a house?
Joe six-pack averages 55K per year. The company says "These guys make $185 per hour (I know, top of the scale isn't a fair representation of wages but that's what they will say) and that's not enough for them, they are jacking up your ticket price." Beside, these guys sleep half the time anyway. I know I always feel bad for MLB players when they go on strike.
#1 Yes. It may not be the best statement. That's what we pay attorney for. I suggest a strong, legal, statement asking pilots to comply with the CBA and nothing extra. It will pull the thin veil off the guys who use the line "the union doesn't back it so I'm going to get mine"
If the leadership asks us to unify by not doing anything above the requirements of our job, how can you (or arbitrator ) say that's not okay? And before you answer for managements point, why not just ask the MEC to look into it?
2) Pilot like attitude is a way of life. Yes. I assume I will be successful. Doesn't always happen but it's a life orientation. We should assume we can pressure the company effectively instead of assuming failure and doing nothing.
3) Joe six pack does vote with his dollars. It's why Madison Ave exist. Advertising influences behavior. It's why we pay for a PR personnel. The old guy may not have cared if our rep was junk but the new guy definitely does. It would be very effective.
