They can do that, but then they can’t fly express more block hours than our NB planes, and regardless, if DL,AA, and SW are flying more, that’s what the MPG is based on.

Interesting, you were going to be furloughed and still made the displacement cancellation? Talk about be in the seat you want when the music stops or what?! Many senior to you will wish they took an upgrade. Back to figuring out the math in this TA.

Yes. But they are going to award 655 pilots this time, and in seniority order. Those 655 people leaving is a couple years seniority for a lot of us, and will certainly mitigate furloughs after this LOA ends not to mention allowing a lot of us to bid up in category quicker when it turns around.
but my 61 1/2 year old friend Joe gets 2 years of pay with VSL 2.0...
How is this attractive to anyone over
50...?
DAL offered the same program with 3 years and netted 1500 pilots...
Yeah I have old friends...

From union. “Essentially, we are buying an extra eight months to see if there is an improvement. Absent a recovery, the Company will be limited to around 2,000 furloughs if they want to continue to use the provisions contained in this LOA.”
so my rough math Middle tier guy from 73 hrs to 52 is essentially I’m taking a 24 month pay cut To the tune of $120,000 on hope for 8 months even though the union put out recovery to 2019 levels will be 2023-2024 at best...No thanks.

We go back to current guarantees of 70/73 if we go over 70% scheduled block hours from 2019 according to I.2.a.i and I.3.a.i.
Now, any idea what level 70% of 2019 is? 2016 or 2017 levels?

This LOA commits the Company to no furloughs prior to the June 2021 Bid Period (if UAL doesn’t accept the CARES Loan this extends to December 2021). Beyond June 2021 (until termination of the LOA, which is no later than Oct 2022), if the Company furloughs anyone hired prior to August 20, 2016, the MPG/LPA reductions terminate. We are sure many of you will wonder why we picked this date and why the no furlough protection doesn’t last longer.
While we would have preferred to structure this deal to prevent all furloughs for the duration of the LOA, we felt the additional MPG reductions that would have been required would have been untenable for the pilot group as a whole. Currently, given no evidence of an imminent recovery, the Company is largely focused on cash conservation. The Company is not using a traditional cost benefit analysis for manpower decisions and instead is largely making decisions based on near-term cash savings. Our hope is that if we can prevent furloughs until at least next summer, there will be enough evidence of a recovery in the near future that the Company will decide not to furlough at all.
Once there is some amount of improvement due to increasing business demand or the relaxation of international travel restrictions, we believe the Company will return to making furlough and displacement decisions based on a long-term economic and business strategy. Essentially, we are buying an extra eight months to see if there is an improvement. Absent a recovery, the Company will be limited to around 2,000 furloughs if they want to continue to use the provisions contained in this LOA.

so if my 62 year old friend Bill took the first VSL he can get 3 years of pay ...
