The word is that most interviews moving forward will be for traditional applicants. Best shot at landing one seems to be through a CPO meet and greet or hitting multiple conferences.

Just passing along what I heard—not sure how much the recruiters are actually able to share.
Think those numbers are actually the CJO numbers, not the total apps on file.

Total apps on file would be in the many many thousand range

This is correct.. As far as I understood it from the recruiter. 300 total swimming in the pool waiting for class dates.

Like Cats said probably many, many thousands with apps submitted.

I’ll also add that the recruiter mentioned the following;
Degree is necessary to get an invite. They are very quick to filter by this.
Volunteer work is a big +
TPIC is all the rage again. 1000+

Thats all the in for I have. Hopefully someone else can add more

Who knows, but it’s a safe bet that United will have the same number of apps on file as any legacy airline does because most applicants apply to every legacy. Not every applicant even wants to stay here, and the number of applicants will dwarf the number of CJO’s we can hand out, and we have no idea of knowing how many applicants simply aren’t qualified or competitive. So even if there is an accurate number posted here, does it really matter if it’s 3,000 or 13,000?

maybe most of that is true but it seems not to be hard facts. I got the invite with no degree and no volunteer time. That said I’ve been an Airbus CA for 6 years and I got the nod from a United CP and I’m sure that helped my cause. I hope the best for everyone, it’s a different world than it was a few years ago.

Timing matters much. For a few months I flew with quite a few new hires without a 4 year degree. That seems to have abated with the hiring slowdown. I didn’t have LORs or meet and greets when I got hired. I doubt that would cut it now.

I got that 2 days ago… experience should be the barrier to entry in this industry, not a degree.

In an environment where they have a large stack of highly experienced applicants, the degree is a filtering tool to thin out that stack. When hiring got to a level where the stack thinned significantly, they dropped the degree requirement since not all applicants with degrees were experienced. With slowed hiring, the pool gets deeper and they can be picky again. Probably a good plan to consider a degree a requirement unless hiring at astronomical levels returns. Their court, their rules.

yup I agree with you, if you have 2 experienced people you take the one with the degree I just don’t think it should weigh more than experience. My point really was that I don’t have one and United is still interested so it’s not a complete barrier to entry trying to get hired in 2025. You just better have some other strong assets if not.

For sure, they will take a 320 type with experience etc over a degree in basket weaving. There’s a lot of experienced people at spirit that didn’t have degrees and that’s a great pool to draw from
