They just added 3 more classes. Dec 4, 11, 18th. The classes thru the end of October were to finish off the junior furloughed guy that wanted to take the job. The Nov and Dec classes would have to be filled with senior guys that previously deferred or guys off the street.

Gents --

Admittedly, I am slow on the uptake...are the folks on this thread stating (and some with concrete first hand knowledge) that UAL is actually opening the new hire office for the purpose of conducting interviews and hiring?

This seems difficult to believe given the significant number of bodies on furlough. What is the reason? Do they expect a poor response, to the tune of many hundreds, in declining a recall?

Again, I have been on mil lv for three years and my SA is low.

s-CAL has been hiring furloughed s-UAL pilots for some time now. They started at the top of the furlough list and have gone thru the entire list. It is not a recall to s-UAL. Many pilots have not taken the job offer. You only get asked once then you must initiate a desire to work for s-CAL by calling Charlie V.(Pilot development).
s-CAL apparently still needs more pilots and since all s-UA furloughees have been offered a job they must now hire off the street. It might get real interesting if there is no JCBA in the near future, as I imagine s-UAL will need to recall soon as the age 65 retirements start.

United is also attending the FAPA job fair in Atlanta on 9/21. This will be the second job fair this year.

They are not just doing this to get out of the office-- they are obviously getting ready to hire off the street, even if it may be a few hundred (or less). Good news never-the-less.

They were at OBAP last month in Vegas, too.

Thanks again for sharing, that (nov/dec) factor of filling classes is very good to know. They will probably give the poolies a chance first, (of course after UAL furloughs), then off the street next.

Update on class offerings
No L-UAL classes start this year, L-CAL classes added in November and December
We have two updates to share related to L-UAL recall and L-CAL new hire pilot classes.
No L-UAL classes to start in 2012
Our Crew Resources group recently confirmed that there will be no L-UAL recall classes scheduled to begin during the remainder of 2012. Estimates for 2013 fleet and block hour plans continue to change on a weekly basis, so the timing and number of pilots potentially recalled remains uncertain. We will provide updates as we receive more information.
We add L-CAL new hire classes in November and December
L-CAL plans to continue hiring with training class dates in November and December 2012. Class start dates are November 6, 13, and 27, and December 4, 11 and 18. Assignments primarily will be 737 with some 757 First Officer positions. EWR and IAH domiciles will be available.
Currently, 382 furloughed L-UAL pilots have accepted positions at L-CAL, 241 have deferred due to military commitments, and 812 are on bypass status.

Yeah i thought so too back in 07.
This is appearing to be a historical match
Pilots retiring ( at a low number), ual overstaffed, parking planes and replacing them with smaller planes, then after summer, way overstaffed furlough again , shrink to profitability and become the 3 rd largest airline once again.. Yeah ual will find their niche

Take the job with caution is all im saying. I thought my li was made in 07, only to have it yanked away, now im ****ed and bitter and guess who i get to take it out on for the next 25 years.
