That may be true but I doubt you lived through a bankruptcy contract, loss of 50% of your bases and a massive whipsaw. My experience is ALPA was horrendous.

Rank and file are the ones that vote. This contract that everyone complains about was voted in by all your coworkers. Nobody to blame but yourself in the end. You can make the case that APA brought it to you to vote on but come on, we can all read and compare. Most were blinded by the hourly rates and didn't make it much further from where I sat at the time.

What are you afraid of? Wouldn't it be in the best interests of OAL pilots to improve our contract as much as possible? It seems to me that our substandard work rules are only going to make it harder for these other airlines to negotiate better contracts.

Just tired of their antics, structure, budgetary constraints, association status, national dysfunction, cronyism etc. I was hoping I was done with them forever that's where I'm at. Maybe they would beat the pants off APA. I don't know. Me and most of the WO flows would probably be a no vote is my guess though.

ALPA as a Contract Carrier Pilot (regional)

does not equal

ALPA of a Legacy Airline Pilot

Much different priorities/focus.

I hope SWAPA forever leads the way from here on out..... but 20 years ago, SWAPA's contract was the noose around many ALPA Industry negotiations. No retirement, no retirement medical, wide open work rules up to the FAR's, no scope. Well 20 years later, drug through BK's and consolidations, ALPA (and APA) carrier pilots have had to learn to adapt (and lower their expectations).

I'm well aware. The structure of national still remains.

Having lived under that hypocrisy at a regional is why I won't support being part of that hypocrisy at a legacy.

I'm sure you'll find the APA just as focused as holding the line on scope as any legacy ALPA carrier but go along deluding yourself.

Contractors are contractors and the fact that 30 yrs ago the contractor nose was let under the tent was the strategic mistake that cost billions to the legacy (and regional contract pilots) pilots over the next few decades.

Going forward though there is no doubt that at the moment holding a stiff line in the sand on scope while defending our profession against unfair overseas competition will be the focus of the current unions.
Stay with APA if you feel them to be so much more pure/effective, but join the fight on protecting our profession from threats abroad, safety and security.

Actually they both had the same focus: mainline. That was the problem for us.
