Posted on C&R earlier today. I have no idea how accurate it may be...
From the Pilot Recruitment office 5 minutes ago....
* May is the drop dead date for the 1000 furloughed pilots on deferral
"We only expect 100-150 the deferred pilots to return to AA"
*70% of next years New Hire will be Flow through
"We are hoping to Hire a few off the street in 2016"

A common theme from the pilot hiring Q&As is asking candidates to be patient. I know that's not comforting and is easier said than done. Here's some more info:

As you can see, flow through agreements and reinstating our recalled pilots are becoming more prevalent in our hiring.
• For every 500 pilot training slots, 250 or 50 percent are allocated for Envoy flows
• For every 500 pilot training slots, 84 slots belong to both Piedmont and PSA
• The remaining slots are reserved for recalls and new hires
• In 2015, we placed more than 160 recalled pilots on payroll
So, what other factors impact our new hire statistics?
1. Previous deferrals remain eligible to return to payroll as long as they informed the company as of May 6, 2015
2. Currently, there are about 900 remaining pilots in a deferral status
3. A pilot on deferral only needs to give the company a 30-day notice to return to active status
As we continue to grow, our plan is to bring on more than 1,500 new hire pilots by the end of 2017.

Interesting. "More than 1,500 by the end of 2017." Basically 750/year. That's some good news.
Previous statements in early October were "500-600 next year" and "500 a year after that." Second statement didn't even cover planned retirements so I took it to be a 'blow off' statement. "500-600" was updated to "750 in 2016" last week.

16,150 applicants in which I bet 2/3's of which also have apps in with United, Delta, SWA, JB, UPS, FedEx, etc. This industry hasn't been known to have many applicants holding out for one company. I'm not saying there aren't any of them in there, but the majority of the people looking to get hired by a major shotgun their apps out to everyone and usually take the first bite. Sooner or later, the big pot is going to start to dry up. It may take 3-5 years when mandatory retirements get into full swing, but it'll happen. UAL and DAL both hired over 1,500 people this year alone. A good number of those people may have apps in with AA that are still active and just chose not to put'm back into draft (private) mode.

Tanker - previous statements said 'highly qualified' was 70-80% of the total an they guessed 90% had apps in at all the big airlines. My experience is less than 1-2% aren't applying with at least 3 of the Big 4. And guys aren't necessarily removing their apps, especially if they're hoping that their #1 choice calls them ASAP.
So, like you said, the total pool numbers are misleading.

My app at AA is still active...I actually don't know how to login, forgot my password, then forgot about it. Ha.
Anyone no matter US or AA is DOH after Dec 2013, correct?
Are they stapling all the furloughed guys below the new hires on the US side prior to Dec 2013 ie a Mr. Nic special? I can't imagine AA would go for that but from casually looking at the East and West lists it looks like that is what they want.
How much did they pay someone to make that uber cool hiring ad?
