Be very careful with the categories, especially when dealing with scammers like the previous poster is dealing with.

EB-3 is a different category than E-3. E-3 is what the Aussies are doing, EB-3 I don't think has ever been done with pilots (someone might prove me wrong here).

Default Gateway

Hi,
Spent a fair bit of time trolling these treads but I haven’t seen an answer to the following.
I am currently in New Zealand and won’t be moving the family back to the mainland until the kids have finished uni in around 4 years. How would gateway work in this case. I will be shooting for LAX or ANC base.
I assume the company book and pay for gateway tickets. If I hold an address in Hawaii would this work or does my home address have to be on the mainland.
I have seen on the threads that the company will pay the equivalent of your gateway fare if you travel somewhere else. How does this work in practice. For example would they buy a ticket to NZ then deduct the difference from my pay or would I pay for the ticket and claim as an expense.
Would the 777 or 747 be best for this.
Cheers

ANC is the junior 747 base so let’s say you are going there. At the beginning and end of your trip Atlas will buy you a ticket from and back to your gateway. If you list HNL Atlas would book a ticket HNL-ANC. If you can find a ticket NZ~ANC that is cheaper they will book that for you. if not it’s up to you to get to HNL. You might be better off listing someplace like New Orleans as your gateway so the cost of a ticket is higher. But again if they find a cheaper ticket out of NEW you’re on your own. There’s no paying the difference and the IRS doesn’t consider your travel expenses as a deduction because they would think you live in ANC.

Perfect, thanks. Just what I needed to know. No chance of finding a fare to NZ for less than it costs to fly anywhere in the states so probably best to have an apartment in HNL. At least that gets me closer to NZ. Pretty sure the family wont mind if they have to spend a couple of weeks in HNL now and then.
How senior is LAX? Would it take long to bid over if starting in ANC?

You could probably get LAX in about a year. I have been here 13 months and just got CVG on the 747. When I started the junior person in CVG had been here about 6-8 months and I had a friend in a class 1 month ahead of me who got LAX in about 6 months. But now who knows. Things change constantly here.

I think that would be overkill. Just catch a jumper or a zedie to the west coast or HNL mate.

Hey guys , long time reader first time posting.
I’m really hopeful at joining Atlas, the flying seems to be inline with want I want most out of my career at this stage in my life, I am not an Aussie or US resident, what’s the likelihood of being given the time of day with the current climate and meeting all the qualifications.

Well, one of the requirements is a right to work in the United States. Aussies have a fast track with E-3 visas, there are other avenues to get there, but it is not an easy process.
