Thanks Whale. I have mixed feelings about it. If only Atlas had called 3 years ago. Hell, 6 months ago! I REALLY wanted Atlas! You all are a great group of guys (from this thread and some good times @ the CVG Hilton). Thinking long-term though, I just can't say no to DL...

To the guys looking for stats:
Regional CA
4 and 2 year degrees (obtained concurrently)
8600+ TT
5700+ TPIC
No checkairman/management experience
No Military

Good luck to everyone! This thread has been invaluable to me over the last few years...

Respectfully...another correction to the training pay comments.

Alaska has training pay ($2k/mo til end of OE)...and they pay ZERO hotel and per diem during training! Dudes in SEA are hot-bunking and eating ramen noodles.

I'd love to give newbies full pay from day one, but IMO there are many many many more important issues to address.

Like going after our TCIs for open time pickups?

I think we owe it to the next round of new-hires to get rid of the 50 hour min (I know a lot of us got hit by that), $1600/mo pay, 3 year equipment locks, and the lack of profit sharing for 2 years. All things which have cost us tens of thousands of dollars in pay. Decidedly not "small stuff."

Thanks, NightIP. For anyone that wants to come here, this is not small stuff. No matter what anyone on a web board says, most people here want to fight for this "small stuff" because it has a huge affect on the quality of life for many pilots here. This includes new-hires as well as people that have been here for quite some time. If we end up ignoring these items, we'll still be sub-par and nobody wants to see that.

I am a regional FO, so they training pay and per diem you guys are talking about still sounds like a pay raise to me.

I passed the online technical exam the other day, so now I am waiting for the next step.

NightIP and SVA402,

I agree with your sentiment, but I would not have said "small things" if we didn't have other really major fixes in the CBA that we need to make next time around. Why do you think training pay, and first-year pay is paltry at some of the majors?...because they fixed other things in the CBA, and did not care to fight that battle during negotiations. Everything has a price when you negotiate a contract...Sorry, but first-year pay is not a big enough deal at the majors (those that have mature contracts)...it is even a lesser deal here...sorry, that is the truth. I want the big stuff fixed so we CAN be a major, and have a better contract that we don't have to apologize for!!

BTW, the OT flying for the CTI's is specifically not allowed in the CBA...and because the company is incapable of planning ahead they tried assigning OT flying to CTIs (and yes, several CTIs even bid on it)...guess what, that is contrary to the CBA...small stuff or not, it is a violation of the CBA...that is why a Grievance was filed.

I understand the frustration (you know me well enough to know I am not excusing the current situation), but training pay, and first-year pay at current levels is not a big enough piece of the puzzle to use up all the negotiating capital when we sit down next year.

CAcropduster if you dont mind me asking your flight experience, when you applied , when you heard back from Atlas, and if you knew anyone one currently working there.

I was a regional FO too when I was hired. Enjoy the honeymoon phase! We'll welcome your outrage and more importantly your solidarity when the rose-colored glasses come off.
