@aviatorhi Good to hear. Sounds like your crew "got it". Whatever "it" is. I'll try to clear it up. Hears the deal. Omni doesn't spoon feed or coddle any one at all. If in training you show that you are putting in the effort and working hard they (the training dept) will work with, and for you. If you have an entitled attitude or think you are going to skate by you are sh1t outta luck. And for good reason. We don't want that attitude around here. Everyone in our class studied and flew the paper tiger every night and we got through. These things are non-negotiable; systems knowledge inside and out, limitations, call outs, memory items, flows, simulator choreography and ability to fly and keep an airplane upright. Get these down pat and you'll be ok for the sim checks and do fine in IOE. It's all in the effort. Anyone can get through and accel here, or anywhere for that matter, you just have to work hard. I'm not sure how the regional's train but if they do any type of "helping you along" it will be very different here. Don't expect any of that. Also, it is the opposite end of the spectrum from an FSI or Simuflight training environment. You should show up for every sim session overly prepared and have flown it at least ten times already on the poster or you'll get scrutinized. They expect that sort of homework. Omni is hiring captains. They will remind you of that during training. Command the airplane and the crew and know your sh1t and you'll do alright. The type of flying we do here requires it. This is not gate to gate LGA to CLT or whatever. You will actually make real safety of flight decisions, out on your own in the middle of nowhere on the other side of the world. Fun but not always easy. Cheers.

Or as Mr. Spock might say: "Colloquially expressed, but essentially correct."

Thanks Packrat for talking to me about Omni and answering some questions. Well...its been a month and a half since my phone interview and I assume it didn't go well. I answered them truthfully and tried my best to give good, but not canned answers.

I'd like to share my experience.

I remember applying and receiving an email and phone call about 3-4 days later. Told them I was interested in the job and asked if I wanted to set up a phone interview. Unfortunately I had to schedule it 2 weeks later due to my work schedule. Did the phone interview and here are some of the questions:

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
One word that best describes you?
Describe one person you don't like flying with?
Describe one person you do like flying with?
What would your chief pilot say is one thing bad about you or negative?...i said not transitioning to the other type in our fleet.
We took a ballot: what percentage of people in ___insert company__ would like you...what would the 10% (my answer of hate percentage) say about why they don't like about you?
What do you like about ___your company____?
If you took possession of ___your company___ tmr, what would you do to change it?
What do you like about ___your company____?
Why do you want to leave/dislike?

Blah blah blah...sounds interesting, tell me about it. (Past employer)

3 Questions for us.

It was a lot of fun and a good experience. HR was warm and welcoming over the phone, so I felt rather relaxed. Never received any sort of letter or email saying that TBNT, but after this long...I think their minds are made up.

Applied with about 2900TT, 700TPIC, 1 jet PIC type/1 SIC type, all 91/135 experience, training captain/sim instructor experience, international and ocean crossing experience.

When you have two misfit individuals conducting the interviews and reviewing resumes what can you expect.
When the ones they choice decide to practice for MMA competitions while in training, again what can you expect.

Good luck , probably much better off not getting the call.

I agree. You may get a short notice call for a class date. Fortunately, they gave me enough time so I could give my current employer (at the time) a full two weeks notice. As it was, my last day at the old job was 2 days before class. I used that two weeks to do the CBTs.

Try to have those done before coming to class. If you have to do them during class, you'll waste valuable study time that you'll want during class.

Wow. I'd sure love to hear the inside baseball on that story.

Just reading about Omni Air. Had no idea they were based in LAS!!

What is the hiring climate like right now there? Would a regional pilot with just shy of 2000 hours (almost all turbine multi time) and around 500 PIC turbine have a shot?

Live in Vegas and love the idea of doing ACMI out of my hometown.

1000 PIC anything... no exceptions I'm aware of. The LAS base is exclusively for the LAS-HNL runs. From what I hear it can be held within a few months of being hired.

Yeah, not true. I just took a look at the LAS bid pack and the seniority list...the 2 junior F/Os were hired in April/May 2014.

Put it on your dream sheet, but don't expect to hold LAS until someone dies, retires or upgrades. If you get assigned the 777 (since no one gets to choose!) you can forget about it entirely. The only way you can switch jets is by upgrading or getting displaced.
