So yes, I do have a vested interest in what is going on there, which is why I have the fixation.

I know this is not a done deal, I know it has to be negotiated, I know this is a process of offers and counter offers. My point is that ATSG has brought in a law firm that specializes in long and nasty fights with employees. I have dealt with F&H before, so I do have first hand experience. The thought of starting off my career at Omni with a nasty 3 to 5 year battle with F&H is not exactly enticing. Starting off a new career at Omni knowing the opening salvo in the battle is pulling one of the most attractive aspects of the contract (for me personally) is another reason to stop and think about it again. Perhaps to you saying maybe I should pause and think twice sounds exactly like saying the sky is falling, but the two seem quite different to me.

Home Basing is not going away. The company is contractually obligated. This is a good place to be, either as a resume builder or career destination. Home basing has a lot to do with that. We are losing a lot of pilots, specifically First Officers. Captains stay because they make a good salary and quality of life is vastly improved with home basing. Take away home basing and those guys, especially the younger ones (under 55) would most certainly bale for a better retirement (Omni's is non-existent), quality of life, and in the long run more pay. The home basing is also attractive to most potential candidates, like yourself. I would never vote to give it up and neither would anybody I've spoken to.

I would also remind you that ATSG spent nearly $850,000,000 to buy Omni less than 4 years ago. I'm not sure they'd be interested in having the majority of the pilot group leave. My opinion. If you have a good attitude, like flying, and you're a tolerable human I recommend you accept the class date. This is a good place to be.

So Omni still has guys in a pool, that they keep offering class dates? What is the attrition rate?

[QUOTE=dera;3326185]It's not a "nasty 3 to 5 year battle". The Omni CBA is great, if you have to work under it for 5 years, what's the problem?[/QUOTE

October CPI 5.6 percent. November CPI expected to be 8.6 percent. 5 years of no new Omni CBA will have Omni back to the bottom of the barrel.

Just in time to bounce back and be nr 1 again. Ebbs and flows.

You can either bang your head against the wall and be all upset about it, or just go full zen and relax and take things when they come.

Yeah, they are pretty good about letting guys stay in the pool if they choose to, and offering them class dates.
Not as much attrition as some people think.
There have been a number of retirements throughout the year as well.

It is not the five years of working under the current CBA, as I have now stated many, many times, my friends who work there really enjoy it. The problem is the five years of the back and forth between the union and the company that can often become filled with vitriol and hyperbole. It was bad enough flying short haul and listening to guys spend every free breath angrily complaining about contract negotiations for several years, I can't imagine having to listen to that for hours on end while crossing the pond. And the company bringing in F&H ensures that it will be a nasty battle, because that is what F&H do.

That is good to hear. The lifestyle and working pattern of Omni fits me well, which is why I still have an interest even though I have found other work since first interviewing with them. But because I have other work, that pays pretty well, I can afford to be picky and look at all aspects of it. Which is why when I hear stuff like F&H coming on board to handle negotiations (my previous experience with them really was quite negative), and the company throwing out the idea of removing home basing, it is enough to give me some pause. I know to some people, for some inexplicable reason, that sounds like me saying "the sky is falling". To me it just sounds like someone who can afford to be picky, actually taking advantage of the ability to be picky and carefully consider all aspects. Having been through 9/11, SARS, the 2008 market crash, and Covid, it is nice to be in that position for a change.

OMG, we get it. You don’t like F&H. Enough already. Post after post arguing the same thing is pointless. Move on.

I don't think he dislikes Ford and Harrison so much as he is frightened of them. I get the image of a shivering rabbit.

Not looking forward to sharing a cockpit with this guy. OAI may fit him, but I don't think he fits OAI.
