Given the fact that the company said Boston would be first and now Orlando is the base, it proves that they don’t even think this will work, also for the person that said wouldn’t a permanent mco base also take away flying from the northern bases? Yes it would but if the company wants an Orlando base and if that supports their network better they should open one.

It’s not necessarily going to be just Florida guys jumping on it. Don’t you get positive space and hotels in a VB. I would imagine that would be attractive to any pilot that is currently commuting.

Commuters on reserve will be all over this. Just think about it, positive space to and from work, oh and a hotel on the companies dime....paying 300 bucks a month for a crashpad in kew gardens with 15 dudes in it will become a thing of the past!

I agree with you but does that mean that there is value in it? It kills a few jobs but can provide a serious QOL improvement to commuters.
Not talking to you specifically but many are up in arms about VBs but no one seems to care about guys blocking 90+ hours by circumventing the pick up limits. I view both of these issues as pretty much the same - in fact the block issue is worse in my opinion.
They are both very important to the guys who choose to partake, but both kill jobs. I hear guys say a strict cap would decrease flexibility - well tell that to the DFW commuter who gets a hotel and positive space to work in MCO if VBs are canceled.
Plenty of potential danger in VBs - if we as a union are stupid, so plenty of danger.
The company will surely try to "tweak" VBs in future contract but we simply keep the unilateral "pull down" provision. If the company ever, and I mean ever tries to end the pull down provision then we end it.

I could see these VB's benefiting local guys, it's ashame only a few local senior guys will be able to take advantage of it. My guess is that the vast majority of VB bidders will be commuters looking for the positive space and hotel stuff.
I can't remember the specifics, but can either side shut it down? I'm guessing the company won't realize any cost advantages when the deadheads and hotel rooms start adding up.

VBs are short term gratification for a minority of the pilot group at the long term expense for the majority of the group. At least the company wins, right?
