DL Hiring: New Process
#2762
Correction, it was NYC only, and I highly doubt we will ever see it again.
Ask again in a week. Seriously. There is a vacancy bid that literally closes in the morning, with results in 2-5 days. That bid will give a much better indication of what to reasonably expect as we fully recover from some Covid craziness. Even then, I suspect there will be some outliers.

Point of order…
7ER is still going to ATL…767-300s are WB even many here disagree

The nuance is lost on most folks new to Delta, but I submit most folks (including applicants) don’t consider the 7ER to be a true WB, even though you are correct that the 767-300 technically is one.

I get what you are saying, it’s the age old debate here... in the sense of “WB going to NH” (an anomaly, and I think also the question really asked), they aren’t. Also, the 7ER (757/767-300 ‘classic’ category) pays like a NB. And when folks talk about WB slots on a bid, they aren’t talking about the 7ER category.

It pays like a NB because we have increased NB pay to it’s level. An old hat can correct me, but when they combined and created the ER category instead of having intl separate, we got them to increase the 757 pay to match the 767 (a pure WB category) at the time.
Maybe some don’t consider it a WB category, but there is plenty of WB flying on it…especially in NYC. And if that’s what a new hire desires, then considering it for that kind of flying is valid and is exactly what they are talking about.

Hi folks!
This seems like a pretty general thread for new hire questions so I'm gonna ask this here. (Let me know if there's a better spot.) How realistic is it, generally, to drop trips? I assume its not very feasible currently, but over the course of a full career, how easy and often is it possible? For context I'm currently deciding between AA and DL, and I'm trying to figure out which airline will let me stay home the most. It's not the biggest thing, but it's pretty big on my decision making matrix. I'm 33 and live in NYC.
Thank you!

There is basically no movement on the 220, everyone is really happy. Except for the slow movement, relative to the 737 and 320, not to historical norms.
if you get 220 you will be able to drop every trip and day of reserve, currently. You can also camp on long call, cash a check, and be confident that with other peoples blanket green, white, and yellow slips you will never fly

In reality though, in the May AE only 17 people left the fleet companywide
I would hazard a guess that some people who intended to bid off found the plane comfortable and great to fly, there are no red eyes, and we don’t touch Atlanta so there are comparably less reroutes. It’s a decent gig.
So maybe that’s what got the ball rolling, but now the big draw is likely that we’re the only fleet that is properly staffed, probably even over staffed. So every single day is blue on reserve coverage, sometimes by 40 people

yes well as it turns out you weren’t the only person to make that assumption.
