Reserve for Dummies
#671
Flew a multi day GS recently. CS never assigned me the PB days to the next reserve days inside this month.
Can I wait until the end of the month and then call to have the PB days added to my bank for future months when I can use them to a greater advantage to strategically drop reserve days of my choosing and break up chunks of reserve days?

I do this whenever I can. Has always worked in my favor.

Randomly had 54 hours of rest assigned to me in the middle of a six day block of long call today. The notification came over 24 hours after the start of the supposed rest. When I get back on LC, I'll only have 29 hours of LC remaining (or 17 if released at noon on my last day). I called CS and the scheduler couldn't give me a reason for it. Is this some complicated scheme that I'm not privy to, or just an accident?

Ok. That's what I was thinking. Also possibly why it's 54 hours. Might hold on to that in case I get some Florida related assignment into my days off.

I am a new hire, and I have been looking deep into the handbooks to understand reserve and scheduling.
however, one block doesn’t fall in place, maybe someone can clarify for me….
what’s the earliest I can request a YS? Let’s say I start a LC on Friday, and I see an open time trip that I would like to fly during my LC period, can I submit a YS for that trip say Monday or Tuesday prior?
thanks everyone!

This comes from the “coverage ladder” in the PWA, or more easily the Scheduling reference handbook.

If they try to assign you a trip later in the week, and you have not been prospectively placed on rest for at least 30 hours in the past 168, you are not legal to accept the trip.
As a real world example, last month they never placed me on rest (nobody called and no CNO). Around day 8 of a reserve stretch, heading into the weekend, a scheduler called to assign a 4 day trip.
I asked him to check and see where I had received 30 in 168. He said it’s on your schedule a couple days ago (this is why the computer didn’t flag it as illegal). I then asked him to check to see when I had been noticed for that rest. After a long hold he came back, removed the 4 day and placed me on 30 hours of rest, beginning then…prospectively as is required.
They’ve been doing this a lot lately and the only way it’s going to stop is if we stop fixing it for them. Know your PWA and FARs and hold them to it. Had I accepted that trip it would have been an FAR violation.
*you are not required to continuously monitor icrew/MiCrew. They place stuff on schedules all the time that ends up getting removed. I have stopped looking and now just wait for the call.

Is this correct? Extended into 2 x-days, with the trip ending at 0600 on the second day. They gave one full PB and one PR with me back on reserve at 1900 on the PR day (ocean crossing). Should I only get 1 full PB day?
