While the service may be honorable sometimes the behaviors exhibited aren't, especially toward their civilian employers and co-workers.
We've had a couple of ARTs resign in lieu of firing for being on "MLOA." ART is a full time job that doesn't qualify for MLOA. We've had several officers on Mil Leave from 2 employers (one of whom required seniority resignation to get a job) try to participate in bankruptcy and merger distributions. I'm not sure if they kept either job...I know they lost the one here. These "events" aren't Delta specific; there were also instances of which I'm personally aware at NWA, FedEx and SWA. I'm sure other employers have similar issues as well. I'm all for USERRA and support the law and its intent 100%. But it saddens/sickens me when folks abuse the law for personal gain. I believe it was way past time for Delta to set a standard and consistently enforce it for all our military members and for those that are still actively working here. The military guys shouldn't be guessing if they're legal or not, and the rules shouldn't be enforced based on "who they know" for the rest of us that are ensuring they have a job to come back to. Good to see this sentiment flows through the higher ups at DALPA as well. |

Notice the cowlings are open and they are attempting a repair, or re-design, on the ramp, SN-AFU.
http://bp2.blogger.com/_FOcWGIJRTf4/.../winstonno.jpg How about this use? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7160/6...e207670fca.jpg Although I am pleased to see them getting the Douglas fleet properly placarded. http://www.eaa.org/experimenter/images/1004_DAR4.jpg |
As long as my time sitting in between those engines when deadheading is reduced, use them for whatever!
Think about how many inches of steel patches and rivets they had to cut through to make that door. That had to take a deep water drilling vessel or something. |

Here's the future. Take Douglas planes from Africa, re convert them back into passenger configurations and stretch them. Sailing told me just to keep this secret to the APC bubbas. No leaking to the ALPA board! |
