It may shrink the time required to hit the ROI goal, but we are still comparing a fleet of 17 DC9-50s to 79 B767s. So it will likely still take longer, & the premium product provided by the lie flat product isn't even comparable to 1st class in a DC9 where most probably cashed in on a free upgrade.
So there is a much greater return from the B767 as compared to the DC9. Really an apples to oranges comparison. They still refurbished and painted DC9s that supposedly would've been gone by now and weren't going to make any extra money for the investment, i.e. no revenue enhancement and short life and they still did it. So why not upgrade a 763ER that's going to make you a lot of money because you upgraded it? The notion they're upgraded out of Delta's goodwill to our customers is nonsensical. They were upgraded because HVCs said that's what matters. But upgrading isn't a sign they'll be here for 20 more years. No matter what they're still going to be approaching 25 years old when the decade ends. For perspective, the 88 is old, its 23 years old. The domestic 763s aren't even 22 years old on average yet and they're already slated to be replaced by 737s. 767s, which are fantastic planes, weren't made by Douglas so they can't fly forever. :D So why wouldn't A330s ordered today and delivered in a few years be 763 replacements? Those 330s could be growth, but somethings got to replace those 767s and 747s at some point. |
Are we really arguing back and forth again over whether mainline will be larger a year from now?
Yes, it will (likely- nothing is ever fully in stone until it's happened) be and has planned to be for some time. The impending widebody order sounds like it will be at least some growth. 321s, though? Definitely 757 replcements. |

Of course used A330s could be a part of a 3 way... let me go find pictures of a 3 way to post... |

Except on payday, when they pay the same as a 319... and not the same as a 767. |
Here's one for you 80. One of those armored tornado chaser cars got inside a tornado yesterday.

Absolutely amazing... |
Just a thought....
Now that we're hearing CR2's down to 100 from 125, does this add credence to the Airbus narrow body/widebody rumor? A couple of reputable aviation outlets had reported we wanted a few more narrowbody's if Boeing and/or Airbus would take more 50 seaters off our hands. |
