The Oasis is out of commission. They had a pipe burst on the third floor causing significant damage to the entire building. I received a text saying to make other plans for the next several weeks.
UPDATE 16 January 2014 Things are moving along. The house has spent the last four days drying out! Ceilings and walls have been taken down, and carpets have been removed. Working thru insurance and contractors now to figure out all the work and prices. Moving forward. We have received timeframes from 2 months to 8 months to get back to normal. Please plan ahead. So, any alternatives for a crashpad near JFK that has a pay per night setup like Oasis? |
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I always liked that place.

That was landing... you can see them come in, touch down, balloon back up in the air, then right back down sharply.
There was something like a 30 knot tailwind down the valley for the landing. |
I've never been into Aspen, is there a reason (terrain?) they could not circle to land opposite direction, i.e. with a 25kt headwind vs. tailwind?

Its in a bowl. One way in and one way out, land 33 take off 15 due to terrain. The trouble with aspen is that the weather can change pretty quick. We go to Eagle for that reason. Was in EGE that following weekend
I guess if I were out of gas or on fire and that was the only pavement available I'd consider it....but what were these guys thinking? Was there an emergency or were they unaware of the winds? (no ATIS, tower closed, etc?) |
