For a very small group, it's a good number, but for most of us it's just beer money...and we can't take it at 60 and keep working like the south guys. Mine is worth about 7500. I strongly recommend avoiding green slips if it costs you to miss time with your family, especially on special occasions. You never get that time back.
I was in the cockpit commuting to work and the captain was talking about how he skipped trick-or-treating with his son to fly a 4 day green slip during C2K. He said he couldn't turn down the $10,000 the trip paid vs spending time with his son. I felt sorry for the guy as to me my time with my kids is priceless. To him, it's obviously not. It didn't surprise me that he was doing this with over 1000 pilots on furlough. His priorities are completely different than mine. You'll live a much happier life with priorities like mine vs guys like that. |

I've operated in both worlds, and I can tell you that in reality the way schedules get worked out to be legal with the new DOT truck driving rules, they have a much less fatiguing job than us. I've done both and I feel more rested after 4 days of truck driving than a 4-day domestic rotation.

Don't do it! Only one little taste of the Greenslip and you are hooked. I've thought about calling the Delta Pilots Assistance Hotline to see if they have any professionals that could help with a GS addiction. Before long one is not enough, you've got to keep going for more. Eventually all of your holidays and weekends are spent looking at your phone waiting for a call. Whenever your phone does ring your heart rate jumps so much your wife thinks you just finished PlyoX. Just don't do it......it's not worth it.
