That's true. I'll admit I'm biased as an active military member, but I see simply not working (APD/PD) as different than performing necessary federal military duty, or jury duty, or being out sick or on earned paid vacation. I have no problem losing GS trigger credit for APD/PD, although I haven't given much thought to the necessity or implications of having a GS trigger to begin with.
Sick leave will now possibly prevent you from getting a GS as a example because of those who tactically used it to free up block hours for a GS. |

If you counted mil leave toward the GS trigger some guys would horribly abuse it. They would mil leave the entire month and fly nothing but GS. Some guys do it already on reserve. Bid 5 day blocks on call and mil leave the middle day and then GS on all the off days. It's sad that we all pay a price for those that abuse good deals.

If we're going to go with that, how about allowing pre-posted mil leave to count toward the GS trigger? Any mil leave dropped after the schedules are released, does not count. It wouldn't be that hard to do, make another code to differentiate when the mil leave was dropped. I'm guessing the company wouldn't go for that, because they really don't want to entice us to take mil leave...they'd prefer we just work on our off days (don't forget to put that mil leave down!)...:rolleyes:

I did indeed choose to stay in - someone needs to fulfill the commitments voters support and I'm happy to do it. Also happy to fly for Delta under the current policy - just wish my military duty didn't stand between me and premium pay. |
