Full service bank question.
I have hours in bank, and am well past ALV this month. I wanted to try the "buy vacation days" options, 3 and 4. Tried both options (current vacation year, and next), both times I get a red message saying I'm not eligible.
Any idea why not? Any reference as to the rules on this would be appreciated.
Grazie

Your logic is flawed. You assume the bidders who can hold a holiday off would then obligate to fly over a holiday because its a 'sure thing' at a lower pay rate.
Not likely.
Pilots who can hold holidays off....bid them off primarily because they want the days off. Its pretty simple to figure out.
If you are accurate in whats goin on...its only a narrow slice of reality that has this issue. A narrow demographic in small categories.
Its not likely holiday pay is gona have any meaningful impact in those situations.

Can you actually point to any logic why this wouldn't work? You are making statements of fact that don't really follow with pilot group behavior and then accusing those on the other side of ulterior motives.

I've flown with enough pilots who were on greenslips who told me they bid off for whatever holiday with the idea of getting said greenslip that you are just making this argument up as you go along. Your logic doesn't make sense other than that you want to frame this as a money grab by junior pilots. Let's say even if that is the case, what is the problem with a pay bonus for pilots working the holiday? Is it because you wouldn't be able to have the holiday off and get the pay bonus at the same time? Even if it was a smaller number it would have an affect (although a larger number would tend to attract more bidders who go for greenslips now).

Like i said...advocate for the override if you want. Just dont try and blow everbodys skirt up its for some motive other than $$ or getting something you selfishly want that you cant get now.
Nothing wrong with self interest.
Logic? If there wer no holiday gs or 1.5 pay....how many senior bidders are working holidays? Ya...probably zero.
Senior bidders are going to bid holidays off in any case. Its simple.
Your hope is senior bidders will bid a holiday trip at 1.5 to get you something you cant get now. senior bidders dont have to rely on holidays to acess premium.
We are not JB. 1.5 for gs has been tried in the past. Guess what? Lot less pilots answered the fone.
Not ulterior motives. Just dont be disappointed the expected behaviorial changes arent realized.

I work in a wb category and I am positive that senior pilots in my category (most well in their 60s and don’t cherish the holiday day as much) would jump on the opportunity to bid for an override trip in pbs.
BTW every holiday I notice that when the gs starts to flow, like always they go uber senior, that’s great, they’ve earned it. Seniority wins the day in pbs as well so nobody is abrogating your station except to allow those who want to bid for those trips.
We are not JB, does that mean we are not allowed to improve our contract based on best practices and QOL for pilots because someone else thought of it or implemented it first?
The fact that JB has it and our FAs have it etc shows that it is obviously beneficial to both the pilots and the company.

You’re deliberately or accidentally conflating holiday pay with the gs system. No one is advocating a change to gs system, just adding a holiday pay override that may coax a few senior pilots who would prefer the guaranteed money the chance to bid a trip over the holiday instead of praying for a gs on holidays.

Not likely to happen.
Senior bidders bid holidays off because they want holidays off. How difficult is that to get?
So you believe a senior in category is going to bid to work a holiday at 1.5 so a jr bidder can not work?
And conveniently now be on off days to fly at 2x?
Thats hilarious.
Say again....advocate for holiday pay if you want. Just lose the nonsense rationalization and expectation of bidding behavior changes.
Want it for the only logical reason. If you are working a holiday it shud be for more pay.

In my category, lucrative GSs over holidays consistently go to the top 10-15%...FOs with seniority numbers of < 3,000. The purposely bid 6 day trips with 2 legs (high credit/low block), so they're available (block hour wise) for a 6 day GSs over major holidays.
And you are deliberately asserting holiday pay is going to alter the bidding behavior of senior pilots in category to allow you to not be scheduled to work.
Not likely to happen.
