Was it a pilot pushing this on you, or someone from HR?

I do highly recommend the Delta Pilot Mutual Aid membership. I've been in it since a new hire and had to use it twice for disabilities in the past 6 years (it sucks getting old!).

It's not much out of your paycheck and it'll be a great help if you have to use it years from now.

There is a reason why they don't hit up senior guys. We wouldn't tolerate it. Give to charity. Be generous. But, Delta Cares? BS.

It's that charity Grinstein started by donating his pay when he was CEO back in BK. they set up a donation drive every once in a while in the lounges, but don't hype it up too much. The ATL CPO was raffling off a rollaboard last time they did it.

The hard sell is utter BS. I don't have a problem with presenting a company approved charity, but requiring new hires to contribute is just wrong. And make no doubt about it; if you are a new hire, sitting in a room of new hires, told that 100% of new hires have done this since Methusala, being watched by management -- this is a requirement. If Delta Cares, then why not allocate some portion of their $6B of profits to cover this cause instead of bleeding hourly employees?

For those about to go to indoc -- this has been going on since at least 2014, probably longer. I consider myself somewhat resistant to hard sells such as this one but in this case I felt it prudent to keep my head low, contribute, go directly to my hotel, and cancel. Just remember, this would not happen during indoc unless management sanctioned it. They don't only sanction this, they promote it. Enjoy your 1st taste of what management really thinks of the pilot group.

The funniest part is, if "Delta Cared" they would have restored our Retirement Plan a long time ago, BEFORE they blew $Billions on stock buybacks to enrich themselves!

Delta cares? About Pilots??

Yeah, sure they do.

I quit giving to the CFC in the Air Force about mid-way through my career. I gave the money to my local church and charities instead.

Problem with bigger charities and and employer driven programs is their is often an agenda that is pushed against certain groups. For instance, the Boy Scouts at one time were excluded from CFC because at the time they didn't allow Gay Scoutmasters. Now--not here to debate social issues, but I decided to support scouts directly as I had been part of the organization and thought they were solid. So I did, and that was my last AF paycheck deduction. When FedEx pushes similar United Way drives I do the same thing--nothing.

I'm all for being a good resource for your community. Whether your passion is animals, kids, parks or nature preservation--go for it. I also contribute to our ALPA pilot's assistance fund, which helps our own in need. But I quit taking joy in making some management guy--be it Airline or Air Force--fluff up his stats with my own money. Its eye-wash, and they can kiss my ass. If its so important to the company, then let them contribute.

What I have seen is when a pilot does something worthwhile, many times the company will then use their PR to highlight that and point out "this is one of ours making a difference!" I think that is super, and does not squash the individual's initiative to make a difference. Our company recently highlighted some of our pilots doing the "Ride Across America" for charity. We have a PHX based pilot who started his own non-profit for kids and has also gotten some press. If the company wants to help those efforts--fine. But arm twisting employees for some "feel good" BS has always irked me, and I have to say the day I just said "no" to the Air Force efforts was a very nice day, and amazingly enough nothing else was ever said about it.

Question about upgrade training...when does the oral occur? I am guessing it is part of the 44X at the end but I seem to remember hearing someone say the oral is in place of the ESV. Any help? 80 knots clamp?

Oops, I thought this was the L&G thread.

They do look at you like a sad puppy when you don't donate in class. However, several in my class didn't, yet, they lie and have been continuing to tell classes that 100% donate. Classy

There is no oral anymore. It's the eSV now.

Pretty sure on the last day of week 4 (LOE day), there is an oral covering limitations, immediate action items and walk around slides.

I don't want this to sound like bragging, but I think we were in class together, and I refused to contribute. I will say that I had 15 years of experience telling the CFC to F' Off when they require you to sign a piece of paper every year specifically stating that you do not want to give part of your military paycheck to something that the government has deemed worthy.

Either way, this was ridiculous, and I remember commenting to my buddies that if any Delta employees needed assistance, it was probably new hire pilots.

I can speak from experience. They do not hunt you down if you do not sign up to give money. I don't remember even getting a cross look.
