Not much of a child anymore, but mos def a nooB in this world.
I guess with the frenetic pace of hiring these days, I couldn't fathom sitting reserve as a 10 yr veteran at an airline that had hired 600 pilots in the last couple years.
We're not talking about the unfortunate airlines with issues - e.g. XJet, AWAC, etc. - but one of the new breed of growth engine airlines, EDV - just not what I thought was in the realm of possibility
I guess I should consider myself lucky I don't have to base in a place like MSP or MCO...

Maybe they bid it at a major, I don't see too many 20 year guys bidding reserve here by choice. There is one 11 year DTW 200 captain that takes CDO reserve to work as little as possible and works a second job during the day. Outside that, I don't know anyone that could easily hold a line here that regularly bids reserve here instead. The reserve rules and staffing are just nowhere close to where they'd need to be for guys to WANT to subject themselves to it routinely. We've had a lot of guys bid to NYC to try to get off reserve, and even one bid back to FO to get off reserve but stay in DTW on the last award. While small improvements have been made over the years, reserve at this company is still largely a pile of hot garbage.

there are RSV and CNO awards. think that's 15-20 yr CA's
I think most non jr RSV bidders don't want to fly that's why they bid that
way.

You're missing the point. The 20 year guy probably lives in base and doesn't want to fly as much. I don't want to be a commuter, sitting in a crash pad, with minimum days off, even if I fly couple hundred hrs a year. It doesn't matter if i've been there 10 or 20 years. If your company has good reserve rules such as no ready reserve, many restrictions what crew scheduling can and can't do, reserve will go more senior. At my company / base. If you take the top half of the FO, 25% bid reserve, and the percentage is even higher for CA.

The most Jr. CA in MSP would be bidding #6 in JFK with 15 days off, double sided commutable lines and weekends off. So the RSV is a choice. This is not a true representation of RSV times in this company. The most Jr. line holding Capt is a May 15 hire.
TT, I understand and respect this may be the correct choice for you, I may make the choose to sit reserve in domicile also. Yet it is a choice you make to sit RSV.

oh and don't forget Co-domicile IS coming. So you need to look at combining both JFK and LGA lists to see where you will really sit very soon.
