So if I am understanding you, are you saying that a 7 year captain would do better with the current pay rate and the 23k bonus rather than the new pay rate without the bonus?
I'm a potential return to work with 7 years longevity. Looking at FO pay with 23k then a hopeful upgrade relatively soon (I know, to be the plug in NYC). Just trying to get a handle on what to expect as far as pay the first couple of years.

The bottom line is that in this negotiating environment no one is going to see too drastic of a pay cut from what they are making now with base wages + bonus.
The sky is not falling folks.

No this is being misunderstood. What he was saying is that those in the 3-7 year bracket may see a slight pay cut WITH THE BONUS INCLUDED in pay rates. So for example a 4 year captain may only get an $18-20 an hour raise when the bonus is incorporated into pay, whereas a 12 year captain may see a $25 an hour raise, hence The "smoothing".

No one should make less at guarantee with the new rates, not in this environment.

Numbers that have been tossed around are $43/hour plus $10K bonus for first years up to year 4 FO pay at $62/hour. On the captain side I believe they want the 12 year 76 seat rate to be about $123. Take these with a grain of salt though because I'm pretty sure the company is not even in negotiations yet.

I put that in the comments portion of the survey that the union put out. Convert the bonus evenly throughout the ranks because it's fair now. If you can get some gains for the super senior then great but no one should go backwards at this point. Base it on min guarantee also.

As far as the 12 yr captain rate, they are just trying to make the senior guys whole again from the bankruptcy.
On a side note, the union wouldn't say from who they'd be coming from, but to expect the 200s to be coming online here starting first quarter so I'd personally expect to hear news from the company before Christmas on that front.

even if you do a bonus based on an 85 hour month (a conservative number for lineholders) it equates to about $22-$23 an hour. If we saw a raise like this across the board I would happy. Anything less and it feels like we're losing out IMO.
