This verges on personal but no I don’t intentionally speed. I’ve accidentally done it but not intentionally. We all make mistakes. It’s the attitude I’m discussing. That rule is stupid so I don’t obey it. The phone really doesn’t interfere. Does it? Does it matter if it doesn’t? It’s the culture of “the rules don’t apply to me” that is dangerous. It’s why I am merciless deplaning a disruptive passenger. If they can’t follow simple sit in your own seat. Stow your bag. Etc how can I trust that in an emergency evacuation they will follow instructions without question?
Same with crew. We have procedures. Follow them. I hate the guys that ask me “are you standard” because they are not. I’m
as standard as I can be. Striving for perfection. Certainly not there yet. If you’re catch me being non standard call me on it. I’ll fix it.
It’s the ATTITUDE towards the rules.

You clearly didn’t read the post. I did not say that nor mean to imply that. I do not make it a habit to consistently break the rules and that’s kind of the point. I hate black and white thinking.

black and white thinking like if somebody doesn't put their phone on airplane mode they will eventually crash a triple seven?

I won’t argue against the validity of following the rules. It’s frankly, usually, less work to do it right than to continuously fight/hide/confuse by doing things “your own way”.
That said, the idea that phones affect flight instruments is nonsense. It may have been true (I think it was) with much older phones, and much older avionics. Flight crews, FA’s, PAX, all leave their phones on transmit mode on a regular basis, and there are not 145’s falling out of the sky left and right.

The old analog phones, if used in the rear of the cabin, would set off the cargo fire detector. Common on the ground, but if it happened in flight, blow the bottles and divert... $$$
The digital phones, depending on seat, would cause digital data noise on the COM radios, and could make the LOC bounce around in green needles. Usually just a nuisance, but it could be awkward at the wrong place and time.
What they should do is just leave the wifi on at all times, to keep pax from switching to 4G inside the marker. The wiki, if installed, has been shown not to interfere with anything.

I’m not asserting that they were at all, but from the radar track they made two IFR approaches that both seem equally laterally displaced from the localizer. Can you identify what DID cause the displacement? Because it - you know - would be nice to know.
But no, cell phones certainly didn’t force them to land without positively identifying the runway, that seems pretty improbable. But something must have caused the misalignment.
