Thank you very much for your advice. I am considering it quite seriously. I have been in the sand-pit for the last 6 years and feel now's the time to get back to the US as the market's really good. I'll fill in my app in the next couple of days and send it in. Can you guys please tell me what to study as far as the interview is concerned. I have been out of the US airspace system for the last 8 yrs. Been doing mostly Europe and far east flights. Is it wise to enlist for an interview prep course to just get familiar. Also since I have airline experience, will I only do the HR part or all of it.
Thanks guys. It's really nice to see Pilots here helping others.
Just a heads up so you don't chase a rabbit hole - E175 drvr is a troll, and an idiot. He comes on to get people riled up, and is just messing with everyone (you may have noticed his "insult" to the "old" Envoy pilots "not being able to handle the 175"). Yes, by typing this I risk "feeding the troll," but you seem like a normal/nice guy, so I don't want you to waste your time on folks messing with you.

Anyway, I agree that Envoy is a good place to consider. Welcome back to the US!

As I landed in DTW a little while ago, I got the call from recruiting that I passed the review board. Waiting for the info packet to show up via email. Can anyone tell me what the medical exam is? A drug test I assume and proof that I am alive. I am not going to class for 5 months, so I am guessing that they will want me to wait a bit before I do it.

I wouldn't worry about the interview part. If you have a pulse and can read you are in.

I am sort of in your position. I just accepted the offer from Envoy. No more sim eval and you coming from Etihad, I do not think they will do a Tech portion either, but you never know!

I interviewed two weeks ago and I was hired. Here is a rundown of my experience.

Take the 0700 shuttle. It's early and ensures that you will be there on time.

The interview started promptly at 0800. They came and took our logbooks, copies and originals of all of the request documents that they wanted, as well as info pack.

Company overview for about an hour and a half. They are very honest about upgrade times and flow. Things will change quite a bit as the top people move up.

HR was typical HR. Why Envoy? What is your biggest strength/weakness? TMAAT when you went above and beyond. Any violations/failed checkrides/certificate action? Tell me about yourself. Tell me about a policy that you do not agree with (could be a FAR). Waht is your end goal?

Tech was very straightforward. A flight from LGA to PIT. Read a METAR. Talk about the RVR. Can we go? Why or why not? What would you expect to see on a runway with a MALSR? Look at the airport diagram. Any hotspots? Where is the beacon? On the approach chart you're inside the FAF and the RVR drops to 5-5-5, do you continue? Why or why not? You are approaching the IAF and there is a cell over it, what do you do, and why? On final you get a gear unsafe indicator, what do you do? I said go around, inform ATC of the problem, ask for vectors to where we can work it. Get out the QRH. Call the company (I forgot to inform the flight attendants (I'm a cargo guy, they're not installed). You've been holding, and now the cell is directly over the field, not enough fuel to get to your alternate, what do you do? The gear still isn't verified as being safe. I chose to divert to JFK as they had longer runways, and adequate facilities to handle the situation. We looked at the high altitude enroute. Identified various airspace, MEA, MOCA, VOR types. If you flew off the route, what altitude would you choose? The on to a DP, identified basic symbols.

So, when they email you, they will send you a link to a Jepp study guide. If you're not using them now, brush up and get to know them. Know the 3-2-1 rule (or whatever you use to calculate a descent). Be open and honest. They make it a great experience for you, and the job is yours to lose. PM me if you have any questions.

I hope you realize these two pieces of work are obviously recruiting for not your benefit, but their own. Why don't you ask them the bad about envoy, and if their current employees are happy about the corporation's treatment of their CURRENT employees. Call me crazy, but you'd be surprised. Just want to throw that out because these guys do not tell the whole story.

Greetings! Can anyone please shed some light on the 2nd year take home pay after taxes at Envoy and the current upgrade time to Capt. I am currently an Airbus A330 F/O at Etihad Airways and looking to come back to the US. I don't have the 1k PIC Jet time needed for majors. But I still need to make some money after the second year to support a family of 3. So please anyone let me know. Thank you in advance.
Returning from the sandpit you have a lot of options. First off don't pay any money for interview prep for a regional, they are getting pretty close to waiving the pulse requirement for regional FOs. I would try to get on with a legacy (of course) the majors and LCCs. I know the money sucks, but at least you should have some banked to make it through the first year. If you end up going to a regional you will pretty much have your pick. As everyone says look at base first and then pay and upgrade so this is my personal take on the regional situation. It is valid for only as long as it takes me to type this and I stand ready to be corrected. Also I'll mention flow but really counting on anything 6+ years away at a regional is foolish at best

AA wholly owned are ultimately controlled by AA ceo Doug Parker who has strongly stated that he is committed to keeping his flow cheap, so don't expect any improvments.
Also be aware that the bonus is contingent on a 2 year commitment. If you leave before 12 months you repay it all 12-24 months the bonus starts to prorate

Envoy choice of airplane but bigger bonus on 145/crj, future of 145/crj is uncertain, I believe upgrade is still 5-7 years, there is a flow. Pay rates suck and will probably stay that way.

Piedmont 15k bonus, basically instant upgrade on the dash. Rumor is 6months to 1 year on the 145. Yes flow. Pay sucks

PSA 15k bonus, current upgrade 2.5 years, at 4 per month that is predicted to increase significantly. CLT base is 3-4months to hold reserve 1+year for a line. Pay sucks and min day cut outs result in a lot of low credit pairings i.e. <18hr 4 day

Endeavor 23k bonus paid after training and then quarterly with no payback if you leave. Upgrade on the 200 2 years as of now. No flow but guaranteed interview (pass rate has been approx 50%) 2-3 months reserve probably in nyc but you can commute during the reserve window. I jump sat w them not long ago, they were on a 26hr 4 day

Compass no bonus but 36hr first year. Rumor says 6 months to upgrade.

GoJet no. Bonus but 37hr first year. They were hiring direct entry captains, but I think that stopped but I'm thinking 6 months to upgrade. New contract w 100% DH and cancellation pay. Managment is considered more unscrupulous than even other regionals

Skywest No bonus 37hr. 5-7+ year upgrade generally considered a decent contract and decent management.

Republic no bonus 40hr 5-7+ upgrade still in BK. I predict a good exit from BK but others predict a gutted contract.

This is my brief take on the current situation and as I stated I stand ready to be corrected.

As a small caution however; I would consider the motivation and take with a grain of salt any information you receive from someone who stands to receive a 5k bonus for referring you.

Thanks. I didn't know if it was a whizz quiz along with a cough & squeeze. A drug test should be simple enough.

Huh has it changed? Before my time it was the astronaut physical. During my time it was a simple whiz quiz and some can you hear me and see me stuff. I guess getting a base line on hearing so you can't come back 15 years later and sue for degraded hearing because you spent 8 winters huddling under the apu exhaust without ear plugs trying to warm up.
