Always go and clear your sick calls. But as a pilot that just got off probation, during your first year, DO NOT CALL IN SICK. That **** will *********** haunt you. If you can walk and read the instruments then go in. The company doesn't give a damn.
If you're on reserve, just hope they don't call. I was proactive and even though I was the most senior FO I called to let them know I was sick. Rather do that, than be the a**hole who would be their last resort and tell them nope. But noooooooo. Haven't heard the end of it. And don't count on the commuter policy. Better just list yourself on 6 flights and hope for the best
Learn to be flexible. And by that I mean practice touching your toes cause the company is gonna want you in the position for a loooong time.

So, either I got incredibly lucky or they also take into account other considerations such as timing, probationary reports etc to come the conclusion.

Probation and sick/commuter policy
I haven’t had to use either. Came close for one of both but was actually able to work with CS and avoid both. Maybe I was lucky.
Just like every thing, timing and luck come into play. Who you have to deal with may be the difference depending on where you are based. Sounds like LGA is worse than other places, but I haven’t had to deal with that location... yet.

I've heard of hit happening both ways. I'd say if the referrer hasn't seen anything within a couple of pay cycles after the IOE completion, then they need to contact recruiting, not pay comp.
