BH Update:
Last week we made the difficult decision to cancel the Best of the Best awards and other programs because of our current financial position and our struggle to become profitable. As you know, in the first quarter of 2013 ExpressJet posted a significant quarterly loss followed by a second quarter loss. High costs coupled with lower-than-expected performance lead to lower revenue and decreased incentives paid to us by our major partners, which means that we are continuing to lose money at a time we had planned to be in a much stronger financial position. Because of our financial position we have elected to curtail spending on programs that do not directly relate to the safety and/or operational performance of our airline. It is clear that a lot of work remains ahead to improve our performance and to become profitable.
Good! Now take that money you saved on these "feel good" programs and buy the maintenance department some damn parts so we can fix some planes. I'm tired of flying broken airplanes with a laundry list of MELs and sitting at outstations waiting on parts from ATL.

Now to cut away at Mini-indy, Acey days, etc..

Didn't the Skywest CFO say the XJT side made money in the second quarter in the teleconference?!?!

Come on. Look what a cluster RAH is. Eagle gave up huge concessions and a 14 year contract to combine 4 and it got them nowhere. Pinnacle crashed and burned. We're next. Regional bargaining power is only a fantasy when you don't own the code and your name isn't on the tail. Bigger doesn't solve anything.

Also, wouldn't Brads recent raise more than cover all of the programs? Gotta wonder how much of this is a pony show for the negotiations.

They cancelled the awards and cried poor because they have to create the illusion that we are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Wake me up when everyone in management takes a 40% pay cut and they start running the company from SGU. Until then, it's all negotiations motivated window dressing.
And I promise they told everyone in the GO that they cancelled it because those greedy pilots get paid too much.

Is there anything stopping them from shutting us down? Is there any historical precedent where a holding company has 2 subsidiaries - one profitable and one not making money - and they shut down the unprofitable subsidiary?

I just pray that unlike pinnacle, we at Expressjet have the balls (no offense, ladies) to stand up and say that if you expect us to continue the race to the bottom, you'll have to find someone else to cave in. I'd really rather go find another career than aid management in gutting this one any further. And for those that say its easy to talk tough until its my paycheck on the line, I hope I get the chance to put my money and my vote where my mouth is. If those before us (pinnacle/endeavor) had done so, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
And oh, by the way, management. Good luck trying to fill regional cockpits now that you've made this job so unattractive, you can't even consistently fill new hire classes...
