Not exactly. Most of the new hires are going to the ERJ, however a few are going to the Crj. As I understand it, after they reach a certain number of ERJ pilots, then any over that number in that class can go the CRJ. I may not have that exactly right, but something like that.

They don't seem to have a firm grasp on CRJ staffing levels at this time. They also haven't yet figured out what the CRJ staffing needs will be after 1/4/2014. This tells me that they are waiting to see what happens with the contract and whether planes will be joining or leaving the fleet.

Indeed. Most airlines are already complying voluntarily so that they don't have a melt down in January. But not The Worlds Largest Super Regional Airline.

Jan and Feb are the slowest months. They will really have until March when block hours increase. There isn't any open time on the 50 or 70 capt. side in ATL now and the 50s haven't even started leaving. We could very well be overstaffed by January.....

Joe. January is going to be a cluster and you know it. This is going to be worse than when the FAs had separate trips and we swapped them every leg. The company is totally unprepared, and way behind airlines of similar size. They have no idea how they're going to write compliant pairings, and have no clue how many pilots will be needed to staff them. Not to mention increasing reserves. Speaking of which, I expect to reserve staffing of 30% come January. That's how they plan to deal with it (like all their other self created crises). Just throw more reserves under the bus.

The pairings won't change much on the 70/90. Pairings on the 50 will suck because of these dumb changes we advocated for. I will be bidding over to the 70 for better trips.
I don't think everyone is factoring in how much ATL flying is going away as the 50 seaters are taken out of the system.

I dont see why new software is needed. Just plug the new parameters/limiations into the pairing generation software we have. I am already seeing more pairings that have exactly 10 hour overnights instead of the typical 8-9.

There should be a displacement/vacancy bid coming out in the next 2 weeks. Approximately 35 CRJ ATL displacements with the same number of vacancies elsewhere in the system (primarily CR7).

This I agree with. A lot of people are in for a shock... in a year or two, ATL will be our smallest base. MD88s and A319s are flying to all the old ATR cities. The 717 is only going to hasten the demise of the RJ. This isn't a good place to be a lifer.
