That’s what I am thinking…the freeze doesn’t start until a pilot starts training, and if a pilot hasn’t started training, there is no freeze and he should be able to bid out of the previous award.

Default Florida Bases

What realistic expectations should I have coming to work here and being Florida based? I understand the majority or the airlines presence is out of the Northeast and all new hires likely spend first couple years there. Everything I’ve gathered is MCO 320 is small base and very senior, MCO 190 same story and likely disappearing sooner then later. FLL seems to be attainable in 2-3 years but to expect many years of junior reserve and 10plus years to upgrade.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

You’ve pretty much got it figured out with your post.

Expect BOS or JFK, on whatever plane. The 190 is and stays junior of course, commuting to reserve blows so if you want a line faster, pick the jungle jet. The plane will thin out as they park them but it’s not going to go that fast. In 2 years you can leave it as by then a line will likely be there for you on one of the two busses.

I’d expect the MCO base to get untouchable soon by anyone with only a few years as I can see MCO 190 captains to slide over. Many of them can’t touch the left seat on the bus in MCO but don’t want to commute. The senior FOs on the 190 will slide in below them when they close it and displace.

This is an ever changing industry therefore who really knows what will happen in a few years. As of right now Orlando is super senior and so is Fort Lauderdale. They’ve been focused on the northeast. If a base in Florida is all you care about I recommend AA or Spirit. Forget about upgrading in FLL or MCO. When and IF you finally get Florida base you’ll be on reserve for a long time and there’s little to no movement. My friends that started at the same time in spirit are captains living at home. For me to do that I would have to commute. With that said I’m happy working here.

Ok got it. And 2-3 years is realistic for FLL? How long of reserve should I expect? I live within driving distance so it’s def a valid option. Is the supplemental bid shaking anything up in regards to FLL?

What does "accelerated retirements of the 190" mean then? Do any of us know? We could park 10 by years end for all we know.

yeah that’s about right…for the moment. However a lot of captains in MCO live on the coast within acceptable drive to FLL. If MCO190 closes, there will not be enough captain spots to go around for them to stay in MCO and won’t accept FO pay. They will displace jr captains there to FO. Plus the MCO 190 FOs will displace some.

There is a good reason they are reluctant to close MCO 190 because they know it’s going to make the LA displacement disaster look like child’s play and the training it’s going to cause will be a mess as they can’t handle things as it is.

Correct. And the light blue is gone. Same change happened on the airbuses as well.
