I’ve worked on the Hill as well (probably similar pedigrees). Politically, there’s no reason NOT to increase the age to 67. I believe that’s what we saw with the House vote. Politicians want to show their constituents that they are solving problems.
All the bloviating in the world from pilots wont change Washington politics.
You get it, I get it. Unfortunately, Ace don’t get it.

There are far too many political points to change to 67. Once age 65 happened, this was just a matter of time. Age 70 will probably be in the next FAA Reauthorization Bill if there's still a pilot shortage.

-Age 67 Retirement was included
-Path through the Senate remains unclear
-credit for Sim time for the 1500 hours was stripped out
-additional slots for DCA also voted down
-changes to the 1500 hour rule and DCA slots remain sticking points in the Senate and will probably push the overall bill into September, requiring a short term extension for the current FAA authorization.

They obviously have pilots to hire, if the legacies are hiring them. I flew with guys at EA, hired with 190 hours and 250 hours. would you rather see legacy hires with 5000 TT, 2000 hours turbine PIC? Was hiring better when 60% were ex-military or civilians with thousands of turbine PIC in bizjets?

there was a shortage back when people were getting hired with 190 hours, as well.

Id much rather fly with a 23yr old with 1900 TT than a 65+ that cannot read back more than a single instruction at a time
I almost hope we can hit the recession button before this garbage happens so the “problem” goes away. If we raise the age and have a large recession we are all screwed- AGAIN!

That sounds like they are hiring folks that are certified and legal. A shortage is when there is a limited number qualified and you run the risk of having no supply. There is no problem finding qualified applicants. 67++ doesn’t solve any problem it just pushes it out a couple years then you have the same problem. The solution is outreach and education if there is actually a long term problem.
