like this - Crosswind Flight Gear Bag - from Sporty's Pilot Shop
You should stick to all black. If you're just going to be carrying a company & perhaps personal iPad and headset of choice. A LuggageWorks Flight Cube will work great. If you want to carry a laptop as well I bought a Contrail Bags 440 and it works great and fits in the bucket just fine so long as you don't stuff it too full.

Having either one of the above would then allow you to have a crew cooler as well. A lot of guys use the eBags Crew Cooler which seems to work well.

Cool thanks, I was just trying to avoid buying any new luggage... at least until the bonus check arrives (unfortunately yes money is tight right at the moment)

Would a plain jane backpack I got in the Air Force fit in cockpit ?

I understand about the money issue. We're all there to some extent.

Generally backpacks are frowned upon in the airline world, although some do it. I don't know if there's a policy against it.

I do know I got my LW bag reimbursed well after I bought it, so you can hold on to your receipts and submit it after you get your first payment to your uniform bank, which is at one year.

A backpack that you carry on top of your suitcase where people carry other smaller types of bags is generally ok. A backpack that you actually wear as a backpack is what people tend to have issues with.

Frowned upon by whom? That's usually the immature vocal minority making snide comments. If your sierra fits in it and it's not neon than why not? Why does he need to spend extra money because some don't think it's cool? Save your money and use what you have.

There's some truth to that, and there's also some truth to the spikey haired regional FO wandering through the terminal with his backpack over the shoulder and ear buds in.

Best to keep a low profile and blend in in one's probationary year. If a $90 bag helps one do that, money well spent, especially considering what the noobs are making these days.

Wait a minute, laying low on probation means not using a backpack?

It does when the uniform standards in the FOM prohibit backpacks and shoulder straps. FOM A.2.14
