Since a lot of the CLT trips with DCA flying have DCA overnights, it's likely new trips out of the DCA base will contain more one, two and three day trips rather than the four day majority we are stuck with in CLT. DCA flying has a greater ratio of aircraft round trips to aircraft outstation RONs than CLT has. CLT flying has too many aircraft outstation RONs, causing the trips to have lower credit and be almost all four days.

PDT ramp operations said that PSA is also increasing its presence in CLT. He said that PDT and AWAC are going to have less gates/flights in CLT and PSA is going to be adding more. It sounded like PDT was going to concentrate on PHL more.

Or that the Dash 8s are getting fewer and fewer?

I'm sure the DCA lines will suck for a few months just like CVG's did when it first opened then it will all normalize by the summer. I've heard DCA is actually supposed to end up being a rather large operation for PSA, so we'll see what happens... I figure about 20 round 1 lines (basically all the DCA flying) will leave CLT to open up DCA, then as we add aircraft and pilots, they will build more round 1 lines back into the CLT flying.

Crew bases in hubs are usually are commutable bc the aircraft RON at the outstations but it doesn't affect whether the trips are 2, 3, or 4 days.....that is based on the pairing build parameters. DCA should have the best productivity due to largest average stage length but many DCA trips could go through CLT all 4 days and vice versa so we wil have to see what the software spits out. The main reason for the crew base is for us to have reserves in DCA bc that is where most of our crew cancellations occur.

Very true. Bidding DCA is very tempting for me personally. I love the DCA flying and the overnights are much better than CLT flying. Only problem is half the daily flights between my hometown and DCA compared to the 8 /day I enjoy between CLT. I would almost always be up super early to catch the first flight of the day into DCA, and likely always catching one of the 2 last flights back home. So I would take a QOL hit there. But the flying and the overnights are better. Decisions decisions. I think DCA may go "seniorish" for FOs and Jr for CAs when it all shakes out.

Looks like 2 in the top 25 in the company on the seniority list are bidding DCA.

I'd stay with the convience of CLT, you can probably still get plenty of DCA through flying on CLT pairings then go to DCA when you upgrade as it will be jr compared to CLT.

The base bid is not just active captains, it includes management and instructor pilots (it tells you that on the page). Good try though.

So how does that effect things? Does that still mean you're ultra short on captains?
