For the record CVG is in northern Kentucky. Not a bad place to live. Cost of living very reasonable. You can buy a 4 bed 2 1/2 bath 2 car garage "new" house for about $200k. You are 15 minute drive into Cincinnati or 15 the other way into Ky countryside!

This area is like any other major city in USA. Inner city ghetto, lots of crime, sprawling suburbs, lots of traffic headaches! Cincy does have a couple major sports teams, decent broadway type theater, nice concert venues, plenty of bike trails close by, a couple decent lakes (reservoirs) if you have a boat,

Weather in this area is basically 4 seasons. The best spring & fall! Summer kinda of way hot! Winter unpredictable.

Outside of aviation quite a few jobs here, public schools in northern Ky not to bad! Schools have lots of tax dollars from an exploding population the last couple decades.

If anyone has more questions about this place fire away😀

CLT proper can be pretty expensive but there are a lot of affordable areas around it, especially across the border in SC which is still only a 10-30 minute drive to the airport depending on location.
Thanks bud!

Do you know much about the West Chester/Mason area. I know it's a little drive North of Cincinnati, but we have family there and might relocate there.

I know the drive can be long (I drive 3 hours now so an hour is nothing), but during rush hour can't you take 275 West all the way around until it hits 75N. Longer, but I wouldn't think you would see a lot of traffic?

From Westchester area to CVG park lot on I-75 would be about 40 minutes at the speed limit. The question is can you travel at speed limit? Travel on 75 is very unpredictable! Using 275 is likely about the same time, maybe 5 mins more but far less issues normally.

I must admit I can't tell you a lot about neighborhoods in Ohio. The river that divides Ky/Oh is a pain in the butt to cross so in all the time I've lived here I seldom wanted to cross! I do know that outside of downtown Cincy the city is made up of lots of small communities/neighborhoods that most who live there seem to like! Plenty of small locally owned restaurants/bars & other local biusness.

Because of CVG location it is "close" to a lot of the rest of the east part of USA. All considered it's not a bad place to live or bring your family.

Also, you could live on the east side of Louisville (an awesome, cheap city) and only be an hour away. And then even a little closer, Prospect and other areas in Oldham County are nice (if you want a little more rural feel), and apparently have one of the highest-ranked school systems in the country.

From living in the area for quite some time now, I'd definitely stay on the Kentucky side of the KY/OH relationship... No question.

A few other thoughts for anyone interested in local activities in Cincinnati area,
Bengals, Reds, univ of cincy and Xavier college sports.
A nice zoo here, though don't expect to see a gorilla shooting often🙀
Museum center, taste of cincy ( memorial weekend), river fest with awesome fireworks ( Labor Day), marathon in May, thanksgiving race,
Lots of other local races.
Lunken airport bike trail, Loveland bike trail (long), Miami whitewater trail, and plenty of others. Several nice parks in n. Ky.

Some people like boating on the Ohio river but a couple "cleaner" options are Brookville Ind, ceaser creek near Wilmington Oh, Cave run lake or Cumberland in Ky.

I heard 31 from some others in the building. So I wonder what the final number will be?

Either way 29/31 is a great number. Let's keep it going!

Thanks to everyone for sharing base info!
I'm hoping CVG is still junior in a few months when I'm ready to apply. Do you think DCA will affect CVG more than CLT in being junior?
Also wondering- If you are assigned a base and you actually like it and don't want to move to another base, what are the chances that the company can still make you move?
