yea I instructed with Vladek at Air Orlando at ORL. He flew with a friend to Arcata (ACV) (wanted to see the redwood forest). Its speculation but its thought he had an engine failure after going to unicom from seattle center. To make things worse the airport was called after he didnt cancel on the ground and they said he was there (this was around 1a)(weather was not that good out here). The next morning the airport contacted seattle thinking maybe he never did arrive after all. Coast Guard on the field searched for the plane but after 2 days no luck. He will be greatly missed.

Someone check my math...

There are over 300 trips in the April JFK bid packet. JFK flying will double by September. So 300 trips becomes 600 trips. At three crew per trip (1CA 1FO 1FA) this is 1800 lineholders reporting for trips in the month of September. At the "Comair Standard" ratio of one reserve for every two lineholders we will also have 1200 reserve windows starting in September. When you add lineholders starting trips and reserves starting windows you have roughly 3000 folks starting trips in JFK in September, or an average of 100 employees starting a trip each day.

If only half of them are commuting from CVG, that's still a full CRJ of employees trying to get to JFK every morning.

How many extra reserves will we need in JFK to cover the commuter clause calls this "Northeast Shift" invites?

Take it for what it's worth, but the company is not being shy about a huge block hour reduction in September.
