I'm basically proposing, at the regional level, that unions are of no value. I propose basically that unions do the opposite at the regionals, they give the company the needed infrastructure to keep pilots inline. Imagine if there was no union or central pilot group authority, how could the company possibly cope with all the anarchy? The company needs the union desperately, but they need to control the union under the covers.

In order to reign the group in and function, they would have to basically work harder to keep pilots on the property and happier, especially in times like this where it is clearly a pilots market.

For the sake of argument, what would happen if at your company (any regional) the pilots just decided to vote out the union altogether and not replace it with anything at all, not even an in house governing body. What would happen?
Easier said than done with the ****ing IBT. Miss one dues payment or dare to speak publicly about tossing the worthless turds to the curb and you'll be facing some Union thug action.

Question for RAH guys and gals

This morning I show up for 0659 flt from MCI-PHL to find out flight is delayed until 1017 due to crew rest. Now this already seems fishy as this would be an originator as MCI is a crew base, but ok I will buy it. But then it's announced that our inbound aircraft is going to be late from CLT. Wait..... What? How can our aircraft be doing a revenue flight from CLT and planned to be departing MCI at 0659?

My question is, is this just how things are going? I wish no bad on any airline but I think that this is a sign of the times regionals are desperate! There are too few pilots to fill seats. Call it what you will, but it's a shortage.

I have no idea of the particulars of this flight, but crew rest, reassignment issues, massive delays are simply SOP around here. The crew may have timed out in CLT. Maybe a GSO crew missed one of their double deadheads to a short overnight in MCI to operate the flight. Maybe a crew refused a blatantly illegal reassignment then was subsequently punished by being removed from their flight and replaced by a reserve crew. There really is no point to this rant other than chaos reigns supreme in our operation. We have no idea what the **** is going on any more than the folks in scheduling.

We do have a serious shortage of fresh meat to cover the attrition. Unfortunately, beyond the big bounties being offered to get meat through the door, we really have nothing else to offer. The SJS doesn't have the same draw as it did in the past. Other regionals have shinier jets along with other fringe benefits. Things like maybe a livable wage and some semblance of control over ones schedule. Amazing at it sounds, regional FO's sorta have to eat and pay rent and things like that.

You would think a new and better contract would be ratified immediately in order to attract more pilots and keep the operation viable. If not for the pilots, then at least for the stakeholders who even Bedford himself has to keep happy. It doesn't make any sense.

Contract talks have collapsed form what I've heard, so they are now offering $5k just to REFER someone. If that does not scare off a new hire, think about how bad a place must be to have to pay their employees $5k to Lie about their company.......and most pilots I have talked to still won't recommend anyone even for the bonus.

That's right even $5k can't get guys to recruit former students or friends of friends, why would ANYONE want to work there. And company is supposedly torpedoing contract talks, so good chance no contract this year, and maybe not till mid-late 2016.

More than likely the crew DH in on 4604 from CLT... you weren't waiting for that aircraft just crew from it.

Since 2001 they have had their pick of the litter and been able to use and abuse pilots, today their supply has dried up. The management skills from the previous decade will no longer work. But they refuse to change. They are hoping that this regional pilot shortage is temporary. Sadly we all know who will be the victims here. They will get their million dollar retirements. And we will get more of this mis-management at the mainline level. Where there is no shortage.
