Quote: You can't say we aren't hurting at all. They just delayed all 88 outflow until 18. We are hurting, at least a little. The time is ripe. I hope DALPA is preparing.
I must have missed something. What do you mean by "delayed all 88 outflow until 18"??

Quote: It is not a crisis and is still a very high and respectable number but nonetheless it is statistically significant especially when you analyze the trend line.

Scoop
I suspect it's as simple as no one had hired for 4 years in 2014 and Delta was the only game in town.

Whoops. Want to try that again?

A few posts back touched on this, but it's more than the fact it's a minimal cost give. It's the fact that it would represent a perk, just for pilots, that is highly visible to other employee groups. In fact, it's a perk that would be flagrantly waved in the faces of the cabin crew aboard the DH flights.

Now......what's the first thing these folks are going to start thinking about when they see what the only organized labor on the property got as a perk?

I completely agree with the sentiment that we should improve our language in this area. I'm just saying that I think this is the mindset you are working against from the other side. It's not simply the incremental financial cost.

All the 88 dudes just had their training classes cancelled for the remainder of the year. A friend was set to start class in a week when his class was cancelled. Now, per our PWA, he "gets" to accept a reserve line or white slip whatever crap is left in open time...or go with no pay protection. This is another area of our contract that is lacking.

If your the first airline to hire after a period of years with no hiring and you're also the only decent airline hiring it kind of stands to reason you will have a above average applicant pool and a higher take rate.

I was in the schoolhouse this week and was told some guys landed in ATL from their deadhead, got a call from Scheduling, and were told to take the next flight home. Now they're stuck on reserve unable to fly a line because they were supposed to be in training? Wow, that's a kick in the nuts.

It's not fun but they are not stuck on reserve. They can take a blank regular line. There are probably 200 trips to pick from in open time at the moment or the even smarter move is just watch for scheduling built trips that are often great deals and pick them up as the month progresses. There are some senior pilots who do that as a matter of routine. Drop their entire line and cherry pick the open time.

I'm guessing that rolling thunder could be very lucrative for the MD88 pilots stuck on reserve. I hope the WS and RT become a better deal than a regular line would have been. The previous post about the created rotations is spot on. Although not in the MD88 category, I routinely drop one or two trips and hold out for a scheduling created trip that is better.

How about the fact that movement at the bottom of the list is going to slow and folks up the list won't have Jr people coming in to help their relative seniority etc. Any movement stall impacts more than just the people who don't get trained as forecast.
