No joke. To most pilots, flying a 747 is the culmination of their dreams. Why would you go backwards to a MD-80?

You were more entertaining when you were almost believable.

Quote: It's from date of hire to 4 months or OE completion. For the sake of clarity, let's just say training pay ends after 4 months on property, because you won't complete OE by 4 months. No way.
More than half, and probably more than 75%, of my class finished OE before 4 months. About 8 that I'm aware of finished around the 3 month mark. A lot of my class was out flying on OE a week to two weeks after finishing training in MIA.

Recently I've flown with several FOs from the late April class that are already off OE.

By they way, Allegiant is hiring and they have a much better contract.
Allegiant is certainly not for everybody with their style of schedule basically dictating that you live in base....but SWA just got a TA that puts 12 year Captains at $282/hr and FOs at $198/hr...and they're doing recruiting events indicating they're having a bit of a difficult time attracting quality pilots.

Doesn't that mean that, by the way Atlas looks at pay scales being weight related, and comparing a 737-800 at 174k lbs and a 747-8 at 987k lbs...that we should be making 567% of SWA rates? Hell, I'll even settle for -400 rates at 503%....I'm not greedy.

To "most pilots"...?!?!? I completely disagree (IMHO).... I would argue "most" pilots "dream" of making a good & honorable living for themselves & their family by working in their chosen profession... as a professional pilot! Not saying the 74 isn't a great airplane, but it's the professional human, not the vehicle that matters most. Again... my opinion only. On THIS thread, maybe many that disagree... maybe not. 🤔😏

Quote: WOW! To give up a 747 for a lowly MD80...... Not too bright.
Well, he most likely will get called and will get a better paycheck. At the end of the day, it is what matters for most of us, not the airplane we fly.

You were able to finish OE more quickly because there was a pause in hiring at the beginning of the year.

NOW the pipeline is jammed once again.

There used to be a place called Flightinfo.......then along came General Lee......FI no longer has relevance. The more that the likes of LAXative are allowed lower the discussion to constant and irrelevant baiting then the sooner this place will follow the fate of FI. (Mods beware.)

Take your typical 10,000+ hr. RJ captain. You can't tell me with a straight face that when they taxi around the airport and they see a 747 that they don't instantly start to sprout wood and imagine themselves at the controls of the Queen of the skies. So much so that they start to use excessive judgmental oversteer while taxiing, fantasizing they are behind the tiller of the whale.

You should be an aviator, not just a pilot. You should eat, breathe, live and sleep aviation.... 24/7/365. Every waking moment should be focused on advancing your career and that culminates with flying the whale.
