Quote: I don't remember the training dept being a threat back in 2000/2001, unless you're talking about the 727 FE program. Them boys was crazy what with their, "I'm a molecule of air. Take me through the pneumatic system."
I told them, "Ok, I'm the most important molecule, I'm THRUST, and I'm getting sucked, squeezed, banged and blown, right out the back..."

Questions?

None?

End of Oral.

Quote: Don't know about AA, but Delta's training is really not set up that way. In the interest of efficiency, we've got DGS instructors who are outsourced, then we have Flight Instructors who are FO's (well thought of and smart, but not oriented with the horsepower to go firing new hires). Typically only checking events bring out Line Check Airmen (and women) and APDs.

Simply put, an applicant can expect Delta to act with good faith. In training everyone has a good attitude and does their best to help the new hire.
I heard there were a couple RJ (glass only) guys hired in 2010 who couldn't figure out the steam gauges on the DC 9 and were let go?

They were CPZ flows.

2 have been let go this round as well. Overall the training dept has a 99.5% pass rate.

The instructors (contract, FO, and CA) are very empowered to do what they need to do. It is a peer reviewed and crosschecked system. We have a training department, not a checking department. Big and very important difference in a positive way in that regard.

And as you well know, drinking only makes you smarter, it thins out the 'slower' brain cells that can't out run the alcohol!

Survival of the fittest!

I'm not a fan of either the Colts or the Eagles, but boy, the Refs. sure screwed the Colts out of a win tonight!

And...why were they throwing from the Eagles 20 on 3rd and long, when they could have kicked a field goal and won the game??
The NFL might be going the way of the NBA, where the refs can completely dominate the game and determine the outcome.

This defensive holding and pass interference calls are ridiculous.

Just to pipe in on the AAL/Flow thru training failures.

The ones I know who failed, were morons at Eagle. The Eagle pilots and management couldn't wait for them to leave.

From everyone else, AAL and DAL's training is quite similar.

That, plus the player safety rules, is inevitably leading to games that will be high scoring affairs; 60+ points.

All your bases are belong to us!

My point was, there was a time, when you were 15, when an RJ MEC could have had all of their pilots on the Delta Seniority List.

But a few tools at the top of Com Air's MEC wanted 'Date of Hire' on the Delta list, so it didn't happen.

We were -that close- to eliminating the RJ whipsawing. But a few clowns at the top wanted to be 767 Captains over night and the industry has been paying the price for their greed ever since.
I'm not sure what that had to do with my comment but OK.

When I was at Comair I heard stories about guys who wanted a DOH integration with Delta but never thought they existed until I flew with one who was hired in 1977. As he was explaining his grand plan to me I asked him if he thought he should be a 777 captain at Delta despite making about what an MD-88 FO was making and already being maxed out. He just said "yes". For what it's worth, only one guy ever mentioned DOH integration with Delta. Most of the old guys didn't even want integration. This was 2005ish.

Was there ever a realistic chance of integrating Delta, Comair, and ASA? I'm not familiar with the history or maybe just forgot it.

For not wanting a integration with Delta they sure put a lot of effort into it!

That is just not true. Lets look objectively at the facts.

In 1998 ALPA removed alter ego language from our Admin Manual at the behest of the Delta MEC so as to avoid ALPA compelling mergers with express carriers.

In 1999 several meetings were held. Delta codeshare carriers met to sign a resolution in support of C2K. At that meeting Chuck Giambusso stated he was against a merger with ASA because pilots from the military would not want to start their civilian careers in an RJ, which would reduce Delta's appeal to new hires. As the group tried to craft a unity resolution the frustration boiled over between Giambusso and Arnold.

At the 2000 Board of Directors meeting the ASA / Comair PID was modified from the floor and failed ... none of the mainline carriers wanted these mergers.

At no time did a couple of crew room blow hards thwart a merger.

Slowplay, Sailing and Alpha will be along in a minute to explain that you and I are both wrong and that MANAGEMENT would have fought us on any merger attempt. They claim to be first party witnesses.

I would hope we could let our past be our past and agree that permitting alter ego air carriers (an airline within and airline) like Endeavor is bad for Delta pilots.

I'm thinking they could use more replays to overturn bad calls that determine the outcomes of games.

Otherwise it's no less corrupt than...

SOCCER!
