The shocker came when I would have a +15 hour layover with Jetblue, in a city that i've stayed in before. I would be looking forward to certain spots or things to do downtown in the city. Only to find out, when the van hits the brakes at a hotel literally 5 min from the airport, that this is in fact our hotel for a long stay.
Ouch... I had a feeling. ERJ XJT is where I'm at now. I'm currently in the JetBlue gateway (university) but 1.5-2 years away from interviewing. Hopefully hotels improve.

If you like being right next to the convention center, then yes! JB is too cheap to put us on or near the strip.

Hotel standards have been TA'd. I've been told everything that has been TA'd so far is at least industry standard. We'll find out one way or another if that is true.

Last few I have done have been 24 hour layovers. Nice hotel off the strip so it's quiet when you come back from going out.

$4-5 uber to downtown Las Vegas which is much better than the strip. Everything about the strip is a ripoff, especially if you want to play table games.

Totally agree. I was shocked at the quality of hotels when I got to JB. You come from a regional where you're used to an Intercontinental when outside the US or something equivalent. Here it's Holiday Inn or something equivalent.

It also has to be in the contract, 15 hours or more then has to be downtown ... how about SFO, 22 hours at the airport! Unacceptable

It isn't that "some hotels are good" ... they should ALL be good. Remember the Condado $hithole in Sju, that was just horrible.

How about that smoky dump where we stay in Rno

I'm wanting to agree. Now forgive me if I'm ill-informed or otherwise ignorant however I thought it was disagreeable to pay full board for my wife(merely inquired), even though the rooms are paid for double occupancy. Not to say anything of the food fare.

Your first guest is free at Atlantis. If you want more than that in the room then it's $50 per person after your first guest.

There's a Subway sandwich place a block away for those that don't want to pay $15 for burgers at the resort. You can also walk about 15 minutes, over the bridge for $11 fresh conch salad and $15 lobster.

I certainly agree the hotels need to improve in location and quality, but nice hotels usually don't have cheap food and drinks that some seem to prefer.

And that can be remedied by and industry standard per diem. How long has it been $2? Almost 10 years!!

You think an extra 30 cents an hour will make a difference in that? For a commutable four day that's a little over 20 bucks. Not saying we shouldn't improve perdiem, just saying between junior pilots and FAs, as a company we need to stay at places with inexpensive options around. Within a few blocks.

I completely disagree.

That is a tacit admission we are underpaid. "Inexpensive options around" tend to be unhealthy fast food or nasty chain restaurants with heat-and-serve food (e.g., Friday's, Chilis, Applebees...). $15-20 for a healthy meal isn't expensive and certainly shouldn't be out of the price range of an appropriately paid airline pilot.

There should be no sacrificing of hotel quality or location in the name of nearby cheap eats. Ideally, a downtown location would have a wide variety of options anyhow which would be suitable to everyone's tastes.
