I completely disagree.
That is a tacit admission we are underpaid. "Inexpensive options around" tend to be unhealthy fast food or nasty chain restaurants with heat-and-serve food (e.g., Friday's, Chilis, Applebees...). $15-20 for a healthy meal isn't expensive and certainly shouldn't be out of the price range of an appropriately paid airline pilot.
There should be no sacrificing of hotel quality or location in the name of nearby cheap eats. Ideally, a downtown location would have a wide variety of options anyhow which would be suitable to everyone's tastes.

Some reality star or musician sued Atlantis a few months ago for bed bug infestation in her suite at Atlantis. Be careful.

First year pilots still make more than the median household income in the US. 2nd year pilots make 65% above median household income. If you need dirt cheap food on your layovers, then pack a lunch and tell the wife to stop spending all your money.
Don't sacrifice hotel quality for walking distance to Burger King.

Your first guest is free at Atlantis. If you want more than that in the room then it's $50 per person after your first guest.
There's a Subway sandwich place a block away for those that don't want to pay $15 for burgers at the resort. You can also walk about 15 minutes, over the bridge for $11 fresh conch salad and $15 lobster.
I certainly agree the hotels need to improve in location and quality, but nice hotels usually don't have cheap food and drinks that some seem to prefer.

It's the top 10% of income earners arguing that they're not in top 5% of the top 10%. Or, the lower upper class arguing they're not in the middle upper class. Or upper upper class. Perspective.

This. I agree we are underpaid versus our peers, but we're also inside a bubble of compensation compared to the rest of the country.

Median income? That includes French fry makers and wallmart greeters Einstein. I imagine you are lucky to be here-just pinch yourself!
