How about IAH? How easy it to get out of training? Also, is it just united trips? Or do they fly delta trips too?

A general rule of thumb is that the further west you go the more senior the bases get. MSP, ORD and IAH are all pretty junior bases that you could get right away or within a month or two. The ones in the middle like DEN and SLC are more senior but still possible within a few months (sometimes SLC takes no transfers for long periods of time though). West coast bases like SFO, FAT, PDX, SEA and PSP there's almost no chance at holding within a few months (on the RJ). LAX is kind of a tossup that used to be more senior but has taken some new hires recently.

I'm an extremely junior line holder in ORD and I've been here just under two years. MSP and COS are a little more junior than ORD but still figure a year and a half in most junior bases.

You can get IAH. It's mostly 700 flying with a little 200. Trips are mostly UA with a little DL 900 thrown in. IAH is a smaller base with about 110 crews. I've heard that IAH will not grow in size though.

Newb question warning:
How exactly do reserve callouts work? My understanding is there are short and long callouts. But what is the reality in terms of needing to be near the airport versus a couple hours drive away. Reason I'm asking is I'd hope to be based out of SFO, but live in Sacramento (about a 2 hr commute if traffic isn't bad). Would I have to go in to SFO regardless of a call because I just can't guarantee being able to get there in 2 hours or could I stay in Sac? Thanks for the help all.

When I was on reserve a lot of times they would pre-assign me things a day or two in advance, especially if I put myself on call first. You can probably plan on using the crash pad a lot, but still not quite as often as you probably think you'll have to.
