Kind of unavoidable when it's 4 hrs prior to starting a 4 leg day. For the 2 hrs RDY nads kick after a 5 leg day, ...I know not of what you speak.

At Mesa reservists can go back on regular reserve after a trip if they have the FDP available, but I haven't heard of anyone getting assigned ready reserve after a trip. only getting assigned another trip or going back on regular 1.5 hour callout.

What I'm saying, is that RDY requires you to get back within :20. The odds of that call happening are very low. When I was on reserve and had to do airport jail time, I left but made sure I could return within :20. Paying to park is merely a backup option to ensure that I wouldn't be late should the uber-short phone call come, but I never had to do it. Its an investment in sanity to be able to hang out elsewhere. There are several pleasant downtown areas and parks nearby to enjoy, maybe run an errand or two, and then be on your way close to the end of the RDY 'shift'.

Some Mesa guys I've spoken to say that airport reserve is sometimes assigned in up to 8hr shifts. That's a long time to be sitting at the airport.
As far as SkyWest, I've never been called while on RDY. Not saying it can't happen, but it's unlikely.

So if you would be kind enough to help a newbie......what all kinds of reserve are there? Long call, short call, rdy? I'm about 1:30 from COS which I understand is a MX base. Would reserve there be different than other domociles?

AM- Typically 4am-4pm
PM- Typically 9am-9pm
LCR- 12 hour callout, 24 hour call periods.
There are no stand alone ready lines, although RR is typically handed out on locals/ days with less than 3 legs up to 8 hours of duty. It's paid 1/2 credit.

So you get your assignment for the next month where you can see when your on am/pm/rdy or whatever? Just wondering how much id be able to plan other stuff.
What if I get a 3 day on my last day of reserve then as soon as I get done with that I'm scheduled for reserve again? That just the way it works sometimes? If so that's fine, I know this ain't for the faint of heart

Yes, you bid for AM/PM/LCR and days off. It's hard lines.
Your days off are set, you wont get put on a three day on the last day of reserve. They use a "bucket" system. 1 day, 2 day, 3 day, exc. You can only get called out for the bucket you are in or less. Sometimes they will ask if you can cover a trip over a day off for 1.5x or in exchange for a different day later in the month, you don't have to do it. Sometimes this is a decent way to alter your schedule.
