Spirit of NKS, Part II

You haven't worked for Doug Parker before then. He is quoted in other "state of the airline" videos at AAG saying they profit sharing has no business there. Because front line employees have no direct effect on profits. By large it was the APA calling him
out publicly about the lack of promised culture change at AAG. This wasn't done out of the goodness of Parkers heart. He is a reactionary, classically trained accountant, who doesn't part with money unless it's pried from his fingers. Much similar to our management. Attrition won't fix our problems, only solidarity and some well placed ads, pickets, and an ALPA sanctioned job action.

Yet he was under no contractual obligation to give them this. Do you think that out management would make this type of move?
Obviously it's a business move. I have been following parker for a decade. He is shrewd. But he sees a business case for improving employee morale. A link between compensation, employee satisfaction and productivity.

Look carefully at the fact he was under no contractual obligation. That means this program can be canceled, paused, or otherwise at anytime with any work group. Will he actually do that? Maybe! Doug doesn't care about morale, he is a bottom line numbers guy, and cares only for his image. He learned from Lorenzo's playbook. Plain and simple I think the actions of the APA and the negative press forced him to do something or potentially be ousted. Only time will tell. However, it is a nice gesture if only for publicity.
As for whether or not it happens here, depends on what the association is willing to do. I don't think it will ever happen here outside of the CBA.

Heard through the grapevine that Miramar is harassing pilots now when they turn in their notice ("Why are you leaving when you promised you'd stay...") as well as contacting anyone who wrote them letters telling said pilots to stop writing letters for people who were just going to leave...
Dunno if it's true, but here's to hoping it is. Attrition might finally be putting a squeeze on them.

First off, circumstances change, if I change my mind after I got hired here...too damn bad. If they thought of us as anything other than a line item in their balance sheet, we'd have an industry leading/ average agreement already.
Perhaps these pilots came here understanding we're a growing airline with opportunities? Then, once here, they realized those opportunities may take far too long to come to fruition. That said, those same people probably came here expecting to have a new deal, commiserate our job and peers. It's clear now that this agreement 'may' happen somewhere in the future; but why wait when others with the appropriate agreement are actively hiring now.
Anyone under 40 or those with less than 2 years longevity that isn't looking to get out is probably doing themselves a disservice in the long run. Once you get north of 40, you may be better off riding this craphole out or maybe not so much. Obviously each person has their cutoff for staying/ going and I'm sure most of us have actively done the math on where that line is.
So to close the ramble...I have zero sympathy for the clown factory. People are doing what's best for each individual and leaving (hopefully in droves) to better paying gigs, Miramar is reaping what they've sown.
To borrow from the LCAL people...FUPM!

I don't recall "promising" not to leave. I do recall saying things that made it sound like I wouldn't want to leave.
And it was the truth. And it still is. I don't want to leave, but damn, give me a reason to not want to leave.

If anyone is interested, and everyone should be, the 1Q Conference Call will be at 0830 EST this morning. Just as a craniums up, pre tax margin was 21.3%.

"Our greatest competitive strength is our relative cost advantage. We are focused on getting better all the time and doing so while maintaining, or improving upon, our relative cost advantage," said Ted Christie, Spirit's Chief Financial Officer. "After adjusting for the economic impact of our tentative flight attendant agreement, including the $8.4 million ratification incentive accrual, we are confident we can hold the line on costs and now estimate our full year 2016 adjusted CASM ex-fuel will be about flat year over year."
Translation: We have no intention of finalizing a contract for our pilots this year.

About sums it up.
And why figure out how to save money by being an efficient on time machine like southwest was when you can just squeeze the most vital labor group to your operation, the pilots.
I guarantee the amount of money wasted in how the operation is run would more than cover an industry leading pilot contract. I know I'd certainly go back to micromanaging the ground ops to get out on time and ask for shortcuts enroute like I did when I thought this place might actually be interested in us. Now, they can shove it up their ass and we can push when the station is ready. Congrats Bendo, this poor performance is by your design. We could have helped you not look as bad as you are but you chose to fukc us instead.
