Spirit of NKS, Part II

"But as it became more clear over time that our competitors were not going to do the same, it became a real issue for our team, and therefore, for our shareholders. And while the team understood the logic, we just couldn't get past a collective view amongst the team that the company didn't appreciate their contributions to the success of the team. And that certainly wasn't the intent, nor the view.
So, we implemented a unilateral 5% profit sharing program, the first accrual of which is in these results. The accrual was $73 million for our team. We're quite pleased with that, and believe you, as shareholders, should be as well. The fact of the matter is the announcement had the impact that we had hoped. Our team is excited. They're engaged. They are intent upon returning American to be the greatest airline in the world and we're seeing it in the results. You can see it in the great job our team is doing of running our airline and taking care of our customers, so I want to begin by thanking them for their continued hard work and everything they're doing to return American to greatness and take care of our customers"

First post ever. I am a 5 year captain at spirit, and was sucked in early by the promises of an early deal. So very disappointed with the management of this company. I have my apps out with the legacies and even UPS and FedEx. If they call, I will go. I certainly do not slow down to cause any delays but I do not go out of my way to make it run any smoother. For example, If these untrained and uneducated gate agents cannot tell me when I call in range that there is ground power and air available, like they should, I come rolling in with the APU running, set the parking brake and head to the hotel. I will do my job safe and with the upmost respect for "most" of our passengers that are flying with us but I am not going put myself out there for management anymore. It's just amazing to me that we could be a great ulcc if management had the full support of the pilots.

I think this is one of the best posts, and it's becoming a pattern. But Captains and FOs leaving for other airlines isn't going to cut it. Management won't care. I know I sound like a broken record but the only thing that will get management serious about a new contract is a threat to the profits. That's it.
Did you read parkers comments that I posted? It blows me away that a CEO would speak in terms of making the "team" feel appreciated etc etc. all out shirtbag managers talk about is cost cost cost. Throwing some some stupid patronizing smiley posters around crewrooms and having a high five day is not the same as caring about and appreciating your employees.
Our management is crap. Pure crap. They run a crap airline and treat everyone from the customers to their very own "team members" like crap.

Heard through the grapevine that Miramar is harassing pilots now when they turn in their notice ("Why are you leaving when you promised you'd stay...") as well as contacting anyone who wrote them letters telling said pilots to stop writing letters for people who were just going to leave...
Dunno if it's true, but here's to hoping it is. Attrition might finally be putting a squeeze on them.

They must be incredibly dumb if they believed us during the interview. Why stay? Completely blows my mind how stupid the people running this airline really are.
Just talked to an ACY F/O who quit a few days ago for a corporate gig. Multiple CAs & FOs going to job fairs etc. No reason to stay at an airline that can't figure out how to run an operation that is at least on time 75% of the time. No reason to stay to make 70% less than our peers with dogs **** retirment.

You haven't worked for Doug Parker before then. He is quoted in other "state of the airline" videos at AAG saying they profit sharing has no business there. Because front line employees have no direct effect on profits. By large it was the APA calling him
out publicly about the lack of promised culture change at AAG. This wasn't done out of the goodness of Parkers heart. He is a reactionary, classically trained accountant, who doesn't part with money unless it's pried from his fingers. Much similar to our management. Attrition won't fix our problems, only solidarity and some well placed ads, pickets, and an ALPA sanctioned job action.
