I know at the regional level nothing is for certain but how stable are the larger bases at Skywest? I've got a class date and would like to end living in base a few months after the end of class. Is there any talk of flying shifting out of a specific base? Im talking about DEN, IAH, COS, and PHX in particular.

I started at Skywest in late July 2014 and got on-line after IOE in early NOV. In Jan, I held a line in MSP, but screw that because its MSP. I'm now on reserve in LAX this month (FEB). Guys from the June class are getting lines already for March in LAX. "Permanent reserve" aint happening these days.

I'm hoping to get to LAX asap so that timeline sounds pretty nice.
How long was the wait to get into the sims?
I'm thinking that if I take the biggest gap between ground and sim it'll help knock out a month or two of having to commute to MSP or ORD. I don't care about reserve as long as I can drive to base.

However...I got lucky. I nabbed the last spot among the deferrals. Plenty of guys in my class had all of 12 hours off between the end of Ground and Sim Day 1. Not everyone can take the delay... You bid for it. And in your class, your seniority is determined by the last 4 of your SSN. 0000= senior, 9999= junior. So, just be aware... The delay is not by any means guaranteed. And BTW, LAX is now slightly more senior than SFO on the CRJ. It'd take me another 2 months to hold LAX.

Sounds more and more like DTW might become a base soon. Also by this summer pretty much all the 2008 will have taken upgrade if they want it. 2011 new hires get ready for the upgrade its coming fast. The guys upgrading now are getting sim in SLC and CVG.

I'm not too worried about seniority number. What was the longest deferral? I know the delay is getting a bit longer. I'm going to move in May to LA and I'll take the closest base I can until I can get LA. There's no limit to domicile changes per year right?

Hah... That was my plan, as well, and I got lucky. A 7 week wait between ground and sims meant 7 weeks less commuting to ORD reserve from home in SFO. (I was awarded SFO for March and I was a Sept 14 hire.)

With gap between ground and sim, wouldn't you lose some study/sim material? Or are things very much solidified in memory that long gap won't affect the deferral. I Would hate to study things twice with long gap.
Thanks!
